as a load of you know, i had my impreza and 540i nicked from outside my house a couple of months ago.
The Impreza showed up (no damage, and more petrol in it than when it went)- the BMW didn't.
thanks for all the kind and sympathetic comments at the time guys and gals- they really were appreciated.
my cherished plate RRH 685 was on the BMW. I have ascertained that i still own it, not the insurance company, as they have now paid out.
heres the problem;
i spoke to DVLA to ask what the score was. they told me if the car was recovered i could put the plate straight on retention or transfer it. however, and here's the bit that cheered me up immensely, if it isn't recovered you have to wait twelve months from the date of the theft before you can apply for transfer or retention document!
i can't be the only one to lose a car with a cherished plate?
any ideas ho to get around this 'hiccup'?
cheers,
simon

On the back of this, does anybody know whether you can claim the right to any plate on a vehicle which has been stolen?(which you owned, obviously, was not recovered, and insurance paid out on)?

i was told that i had to make it very clear, in writing, to the insurers that i wanted to keep the plate, or they would claim it.
