Suggested routes to Oulton Park

Hopefully should have some tickets for the weekend's racing up at Oulton Park (details here if anyone else is interested in going). Sal and I will be travelling up from Hertfordshire, leaving at roughly 3:00PM.
Bearing in mind we are going to hit Friday evening rush hour traffic somewhere, I am looking for suggestions other than the obvious M1, M6 route.
Any thoughts anyone?

Call in a for a coffe on the way past!
I'd take M1, A50, avoid M5/M6 around Brum like the plague.
Alternatively, M40, M42 to J9 or J10. Then A51 all the way to Tarporley going through Lichfield, Rugeley, Stone (and it's a top blast from from there on!). I use this way a lot to avoid the M6.
