Blimey, finally got round to taking my TAG watch for a new battery. Took it to beeverbrooks where i bought it from and was told it costs £35 and takes approx 8 weeks.
being a tight yorkshireman(combined with being an accountant) i could not believe it.
when i came round i was told they replace seals and pressure test them. thank god for that, i was begining to think they were putting a bloody car battery in it
anyway see you in september Mr TAG

I'm trying get someone to restuff two (admittedly large) sofa cushions with feathers. John Lewis want them for 16 weeks - presumably they put the feathers in one-by-one.

Scud - don't forget the cushions have to be pressure tested and used in a cushion fight to test "suitability for purpose intended"

they have to pluck the feathers first as well
goldsmiths were the same, or i could have "them" just replace the battery, but then the seals are sha66ed! er... no thank you.
you dont pay £1000 for a watch and then get it repaired cheaply.
you wouldn't do it to the scoob so why something else you like(it was an engagement present by the way(albeit i paid for it as well as her ring))

What's your problem? I bought an automatic Rolex so I wouldn't have that battery problem ever again.
They recommend it is serviced every five years. Cost of service? 175 pounds .
Could buy meself a new Seiko every five years with that money, avoid the 2 grand initial outlay, and the Seiko would be a lot more accurate.
It's my choice, and at present I can afford it.
Edit to add; Most Rolex dealers will also tell you of a 6-8 week waiting list for servicing, but if you send it to Rolex directly it takes a lot less. The dealers usually wait until they have a few before posting them, it's cheaper for them, hence the delay. Try to find where TAGs are serviced, phone 'em up and ask the price directly. When you post it, send it to "THW Company" so people don't realise there's a grand's worth of watch inside.
Oh yeah - all those of you who want a Macca F1, I remember reading a Daily Express (I think) article detailing the MoT for this fine chariot; it'll cost you a cool ten grand each year.
Rich folk; big money in, big money out...

thats nothing try getting a rolex serviced
they used to send them back to switzerland costing me about 120 squid and take up to 3 months
the last time it was about 150 because the regulator was bust
mind you it cost my old man 700 to buy when i was 21 it was recently valued at 1900 and it is probably the cheapest model out

Likewise bought the Misus a Tag a while ago in HK and the battery went within a short space of time. Now because she's lazy and tight , we she waited until we went back to HK then just took it to a local Chinaman...
No repressurising but at £5 you can't argue and to be honest who is going to wear them to X zillion meters under water etc ... Not her !
Edited to say Matt, I know how you feel, BUT - the dman thing looks like new when it does come back and will last forever ( oyster perpetual ), they even polished the glass and got all the tiny scrratches out - amazing
Rgds,
Paul

hmm, guess I have about another 8 hours before SJ_Skyline's TAG gives up ghost then.
At the end of the day £35 isn't too bad a deal on a very good watch and at least it is all done properly. 8 weeks is a bit long but it should be guaranteed.

agree there is no point skimping on a replacement for the watch if you can have it done properly for £35. it just shocked me, suppose with hind sight i am just bothered that its gone for 8 weeks, and worried that they will loose it, after all it was my engagement present to myself(i had to try and get near the price of her engagement ring somehow)

Paul - OWWW!!
i don't know if there is an official time period, but I'd say 2 yrs absolute minimum, and that's if you use it in dodgy places (eg diving, or where there is sand or harsh dust). For all others, 4-5 yrs is fine.
Rolex workshop is in Bexleyheath, Kent. Phone number should be available somewhere. And yes, they do polish the hell out of it at the same time.

Anyone heard of Oskar Emil? I have a OSkar Emil Caesium.
I bought it in 1998 and it is still running the same battery (probably go now). Keeps snapping the strap pins once every couple of years but H.Samual keep changing them for nothing?
