If so it's a grass snake. Looks like a nice one too.

Pick it up with a stick and keep it in a fish tank.

Cheapest pet you'll ever get

If I were a bit closer to N'Hampton I would offer my 3" Magnum to you, it would 'remove' the snake quite easily.

Careful - don't be upsetting sensibilities with talk of unwarranted death by gun on a poor unsuspecting snake

Might be someone's pet...

Get the poor bugger in the house in a nice warm tank, it will be freezing to death out there in this weather.

I dont know if they like ice creams, my ferret does.

I suppose the big brown rat that was on my bird table could have been someones pet...could have been as in past tense, it is now in a black bag with a "John Doe" label attached.

Dunno what Im going on about!

Cheers all, ps love animals really, cept spiders!

Is it one of our "natural species" of snake, ie the adder or grass snake? or is it something that someone let out to play
if its either one of the uk's snakes they are not that dangerous (esp the grass snake and the adder will only give you a bee like sting but hazardous to kids and old folk).
Keep the bugger warm and have a nice pet out of it (unless it eats your pets then give it the RSPCA )

Certainly looks like a grass snake to me too. I've seen 'em up to 5 feet long in France!! And that's bl**dy big!
Was once stood in the River Tarn over there, felt something touch my leg under (glass clear) water, looked down, and there was a grass snake, about 3 feet long, under water, investigating my leg!
My mate LOL, 'cos he said I got out of the water quicker than I got in, which was pretty good, seeing as how I had dived in!!

Cool

It's a completely harmless, though quite large, grass snake. How cool is that?

Very nice Amazing what critters you see showing up when having a pond.

PS Davyboy, tell your dad he may want to "hide" his pond liner a bit better, it degrades because of the UV if left exposed. He may want to wait a bit with that though until Bob there goes for a walk/slide

Just make sure it doesn't get on to the bonnet of your car and scratch it or 'gtr_man' will want to come along and shoot it

Grass snake - protected species so don't go telling the BBS if it comes to an unpleasant end. Probably a nest of them around somewhere (they epecially like warm compost heaps). We had several in our pond and I dumped then in a sack and released them some miles away near a river ('cos they like eating small fish). BTW they STINK when upset e.g. by being put in a sack!! Nice specimen though and great piccie!! David

Why don't you get the video camera and do a bit of Steve Irwin, then send it into ITV for £250 squids. I'm sure any dealings with a snake, albeit a harmless one will result in a fair amount of hilarity on camera, unless of course you are used to handling the little b*ggers.

I am only used to handling the 'pink one eyed trouser snake'

In fact you might call me somewhat of an expert
