Question

My mum's Panasonic Widescreen tv (only 8 months old!) has packed up

From stand-by mode when you try to turn it on it clicks (presumably the relay/switch?) then you hear static and instead of the picture appearing as it would normally it clicks back to stand-by mode, sometimes before it clicks back you get a white sort of shape thing on the screen (sorry don't know correct term!)

It is so frustrating as it seems to try to come on but can't quite manage it.

I am waiting for the service centre to ring me back to come and fix it but am not holding out much hope of them getting here before the British GP, in any case they say they have to take it away to repair it. It's still under warranty.

If it's something simple then I'd rather pay someone to come and fix it in-situ rather than take it away (oh god no - not the telly..... ) or am I being stupid when it's still under warranty?

It's been like it for 3 days now

Sal

My Sony 28" wide does jthis, has done for the last 3 years or so. I tend to leave it in standby unless away for a day+

Mine works again if i switch off, unplug untill the standby light fades and goes out then i plug back in and power up.

I think it is a power supply/switching problem.

I recently had an almost identical problem with my hitachi 28" widescreen.

Just needed a bit of soldering on the bottom of the pcb. Dry joints on the regulators the tv repair man said. Quite a common problem too..

Cheers
Rob
