Question

Chap in USA wants to buy something from me which costs £60. He wants to use PayPal for payment (I had asked for Visa payment). I've had a look at paypal.com but it seems a bit of a hassle for a one-off and small transaction - I will have to pay fee and how they deal with currency conversions is not clear. Anyone any experience of this US based system. PS. He also asked if I accept Discover cards but have never heard of these?? Thanks, David

I use it. Its quick and efficient. As far as I'm aware, you only pay to receive money - the sender can send cash "free" as it were.

Ive used it but its a bit of a hassle to workout the conversion rate but if HES sending you the money you shouldnt have any problems.
ive never heard of a Discover card but that shouldnt worry you, soon as you the receive money into your account send out the goods.

I use it, you do get charged for international transactions. You need to set up and account and then put your bank account details in there so you can withdraw the money. I think you will lose 3% of the value of the money you recieve, and he will lose a similar amount. It also takes 5 working days to clear your UK Bank acount, once you have withdrawn the funds on the paypal site.

It works though, just a bit slow. Discovery card is a US based payment system like VISA.

paypal are hopeless - if you do use them - pray you don't ever have to use their helpline - they never reply to e-mails - shoddy

'eggpay' from egg.com is a million times better - plus egg don't take a slice of your money - plus you get notifications when maoney is sent and also when the receiver collects - top marks.

I use paypal , no problem at all. It was a pain to setup though. You can transfer your paypal balance to a UK bank account as well, as long as the min transfer amount is $25. As with most things these days they take a cut out of it. I just add that into the price of the item.

edited to say, I have never got any junk mail from them yet

I prefer nochex (www.nochex.co.uk). Having used both, nochex is best.
