It's a disability friendly design. If you're an Aspie type, you may be collecting several push-bike models, if you're into them. You can utilise this Toblerone bar as a parking bay for them.

I was told this was a move based on the falling value of the £1. To enable pound shop and other value brand shops to keep selling Toblerone at £1 the overall weight has been reduced but the packaging remains the same size, hence the added spacing.

Bought one from the pound shop last night after seeing this thread - but it weighs 170g not the 150g shown in the image.

That picture may well be doctored but they have changed them like that.
I buy the largest ones that were 400g. A couple of weeks back I opened one and thought "What the hell!". The gap between triangles was obviously bigger. Now 360g.
I wonder what reason they would use to justify that, that isn't maintaining profits.

Aren't Toblerone now made by the same nasty plastic cheese makers that bought Cadbury?

Prolly explains a lot

Not just the disability friendly, perhaps Toblerone is now older people friendly as well, hence the mirroring of the older people's teeth with huge gaps in the bar.

This is a very thought provoking post, because whenever I have eaten a bit of Toblerone, I felt that the plastic bits in it stuck to my teeth, which were difficult to shift. I suppose that is the appeal, but not for me TBH.

My most regrettable buying of this chocolate bar was at the Switzerland airport on the way to India, once. I had to buy the largest bar as a gift for my sister in India, because she and her husband were to put us up in their house. It cost me my arm and a leg. They don't have Toblerone there in India, so they really liked it and chomped it up in no time! They didn't even complain about the plastic bits in it. To my memory, the gaps in the bar weren't that wide, then.

At least now we can up that limit, give our coffee farmers a fair chance. Camp Coffee anyone? Brexit, Huzzah!

Talking of cost...
I was in the airport at Saigon to go to Hanoi in March. I went in the shop by the gate and bought a 400g bag of peanut M&Ms. Because £1 was around 32000 Dong at the time the whole money thing is all a bit calculator. It wasn't till I sat down it dawned on me that they cost me $10 (everything is either Dong or Dollar when converted).
That bag would have been less than £3 here.

Yes, international airport prices are rip off! Even domestic ones try to pull a fast one tbh.

I paid about 6 quid for a croissant and a tea at Bangkok International. I pay about 5 quid for a coffee at Abu Dhabi airport. But Swiss International has been the worst with its prices for me. Once I bought a couple of croissants and 3 hot drinks, there. Guess how much? 26 British quid! Next time, I'll take my own butties for such breaks.

I have to say that Zurich is an impressively clean airport! You could drop your croissant, pick it and eat it without shaking any dirt off it, as there's none around. Absolutely spick and span! When I stopped there, it pleased me even more to see our British David Beckham in posters, advertising expensive Swiss watches on massive billboards, just outside the airport. You could see Beckham's posters towering over everything through the glass walls. Makes you proud of Britain.

Back to Toblerone, there're humungous bars already on sale in the shops; for Christmas. I personally think that it's criminal to gift anyone that much chocolate. Not because you should eat it yourself, but because such large amount of chocolate is bad for you, and whoever gifts it to you can't be your well-wisher.

That could be another reason why that Toblerone bar in the OP pic is gappy. Perhaps Toblerone has decided to become not just the disability friendly and older people friendly, but also BMI friendly; with bigger gaps thus less chocolate in it. Good move, but it should charge less for it as well, to be fair.

Making it smaller would have meant new packaging, that's expensive.

indeed !!

this is a fascination resource that allows you to interactively see the difference in the Himalayan Glaciers over the last 100 years or so

"Founded by acclaimed mountaineer, photographer, and filmmaker David Breashears, GlacierWorks is a non-profit organization that vividly illustrates the changes to Himalayan glaciers through art, science, and adventure. Since 2007, GlacierWorks has undertaken twelve expeditions to document the current state of the glaciers, retracing the steps of pioneering mountain photographers in order to capture new images that precisely match the early photographic records. Over the past five years, they have recorded losses and changes to glaciers that are inaccessible to all but the most skilled climbers"

Yes, the most impressive comparison.

Domino said it the very second post on this thread:

The shape of Toblerone was originally based on being a representation of the Swiss Alps. Now,due to political correctness,it demonstrates how many teeth you could lose if you keep eating it.

Does anyone actually like these things? I put them in the same category as garage 'food'; something you eat when there's bugger all else available.

I wouldn't put them even in my office cupboard for my emergency foods, when I can't go out for lunch due to my absorbing workload. Even my cats wouldn't bother with Toble-effing-rone! My kids, when they received them of others on Chridtmas etc.also didn't bother eating much of them. Most went into the waste bin.

I'd eat some of Toblerone if I were on a hunger strike for over three days, like. After such three dire days, I suppose even pork scratchings would look edible.

Disclaimer: I bought my sis and her husband an oversized Toblerone because I wanted them to try something different, that's all. I do love them and don't wish them to be unhealthy by consuming it OTT. They don't even get it, there. They get unhealthy on their excessive intake of OTT sugary Indian sweets, which is not in my control.

Plus it would have made it more obvious that it was smaller, unlike Snickers four packs that Tesco sell for a quid every so often, which I swear are the same size as Fun Size bars used to be when I was a kid!
