The Olympics - I'm ashamed to admit...
That they just don't grab me like they used to. Sure I'll watch quite a few events but the only ones I really look forward to are the short distance track events, Usain of course and up to 1500 metres So why do I feel like this? Have I changed or have the games turned into some over commercial drug fest and it has lost the plot?
And I am doubly ashamed to state that I have virtually no interest in the Paralympics whatsoever. This is not to say that I don't admire the hard work and dedication put in my the competitors and I wish them all success.
Any one else feel the same?
David

I play as much sport and as varied a sport as possible.I agree with DL though
The times of the excitement of Coe,Ovett and Cram (and everything else the Olympics offered )are long gone.A non event generally nowadays.I just check the medal count in the paper just to confirm we are indeed the country that is rubbish at everything.lol

Just no interest anymore I'm afraid Mark.Simply not the same.Whole thing normally revolves around the 100m.
And I am obsessed with sport. It(the Olympics) has lost its allure completely. No idea why.Just has.Was amazing once

I hear what you are saying but don't agree. I enjoyed sport most of my life but now have only one foot working properly so those days are over. No its something else and not because I don't like sport as such. Pathetic nostalgia perhaps as I remember my heroes of old. Bannister, Coe, Ovett, barefoot Zola pushing Decker out of the way and even the moustachioed East German woman shot putters up to their beards in steroids and muscles that make Serena Williams look anorexic

Jessica Ennis is still worth a look
I'm still looking forward to it and did enjoy the different sports available in the Paralympics at London
Can't wait for the basketball though

and it did seem to energise the whole country
so I suspect a little bit of "rose tinted spectacles" - the harking back to a golden age going on - it is very appealing after all
we all do it - I fondly remember as a child watching the summer Olympics (it was always hot and sunny obviously), Mark Spitz, David Emery, and Daley Thompson
but it does seem a wee bit tainted now with money / drugs / corruption - and not just in the Olympics
leading to a bit of cynicism

PS @ David
Yes, agree re the Paralympics - I said during the 2012 something similar
Hopefully my children don't share my views on that - they went to one of the Para Olympic swimming events in London as part of a school trip and really enjoyed it

Agree, but also don't know why.
Always watched a varied range of events in the past, finding new ones that I enjoyed when I didn't think I would, but not sure I will bother much this time. Odd isn't it?

Trying to be positive I did watch some of the ceremony and appreciate they had a reduced budget. I think many would have liked to have tipped the President out of a chopper but without a parachute
But the 3 or so hours watching the athletes traipsing around the track has to win a gold medal for the most boring programme on TV. The speeches were just bullsh1t and the save resources and climate change stuff was aimed at the kids. Fair enough but isn't Brazil the country that has chopped down acres of beautiful forest and uses agricultural land to grow crops to produce fuel for gas hungry yank vehicles?
Good luck to the Brits
