Councils can't prosecute parents ***** nilly
You have to thank the father who fought his local authority over fining him for going on holiday with his kid during term time. His child had a good attendance record so should be no problem, well it won't be now thanks to the high Court setting precedence
For other kids and parents who regularly attend school.
I have a lot of skin in the this game, and am always juggling schools dates with holidays etc
I am sure he is a diligent parent etc, and his children won't suffer
so on the one hand it is common sense, but let’s not loose site of why the law/ruling whatever it is, is in place
it is to stop parents taking children out of school ***** nilly - can you imagine the disruption if ALL parents start taking kids out - a few days, the odd week, maybe a really big trip to the States - so fvck it, let’s take two weeks
the end of term will be a nightmare for the school / teachers - with schools half empty
and what's the root philosophy here - the "I want" culture
I want a holiday - well maybe earn more money so you can afford it then without taking you kids out of school
a better approach is for schools to stagger their term times

Took my kids out of school of the Wednesday before they broke up on the Friday pm last year so 2 days off , we also took her friend .
It was £1800 cheaper to go on the Wednesday pm than the Friday pm...my kids didn't get the 'fine' whereas my daughters friends parents did.
Holiday companies are to blame....nearly 2k over 48 hours.
Unless it's 'exam' time I'll continue to take my kids as and when I want to.
I saw in the news report that the mother of the child (father and mother have split) took the child out in Term time again, and nothing happened to her.
I suppose it depends whether you think a holiday is more important than education.
What a narrow minded view.
Maybe the parents have fixed holidays or canot afford it when the prices get ramped up and want to still have a family holiday.

What a misreading of a simple sentence. It's not a view just an observation.
I've been looking at different holidays over the last week, looking for a last minute half term deal.....This screen shot highlights what robbing ba*tards the holiday companies are.
For me, my wife and our 5 year old daughter to go during half term is roughly £1800 more expensive than if we were to go 2 weeks earlier.

Read above......last year it was that in a 48hr difference..I'll happily take a £100 school fine
Send you a court summons... then if you refuse to pay they will exclude your child from the school....but it's fine for them to strike when they like with no consequence

We had booked to go back to Turkey in September and was prepared to take her out of school for the week and except the fine but managed to get our money back due to Thomson moving our flight a day later..............A blessing in disguise really.
When I were a lad, I was taken on hols during term time. Passed all my exams with the lowest grade being a C. I never found myself behind and always managed to catch up* and still managed over a 99% attendance. The school used to give out certificates for 100% attendance...and somehow I ended up with one despite being on hols for two weeks during the same term (I remember getting some stick for that LOL ).
* sort of; I was alway behind with homework As I only ever did the bare minimum for homework as I never believed in working after "clocking off" LOL, still do.
What boils my **** is paying the same amount for a 5 year old than you do an adult for an all inclusive holiday, that's just wrong IMO.
.......and before anyone mentions "free child places"..They don't actually exist if you do the sums.
I agree, think it's from 3 yo you have to pay otherwise free if under no?
Like a child is going to take advantage of all the free liquor and food, they only eat a bit of food and drink pop!
its just as bad in the uk mind last year
sat to sat last week in august £940
last sat in august to 1st sat in september £360
having to take wednesay thursday friday off school we didn't get fined but at £60 each for 3 kids they could have it
same place same features everything still open just less busy. it's bloody wrong and the goverment sit back and do **** all about it
If all schools get turned into academies with control over when they set their holidays, then this is going to become more and more common. In the town where my kids go to school, the secondary (academy) does not coordinate it's holidays with the primary schools in the same town. So anyone with kids in both schools is stuffed.
sigh - no they are not theiving b@stards - its a reflection of demand - no-one wants holidays a few days before, everyone wants holidays in non-term time. Its how supply and demand works. If you start regulating it, all holidays will go up and you wont be able to find any at the regulated price all of a sudden. Its been done before in rent controls for example. Read about Rachman and the 1965 Rent Act, and modern Venezuela. As soon as you try and manipulate a market, it falls apart. Stop being stupid
All the fines go to central government, all the faffing and cost are absorbed by local government. Ultimately all this means is the law will be reclarified to make it impossible.

Sigh - and the award for most state the obvious post of the week goes to............
