As I found out the hard way, the STI rear lights I sold to a member on here turned up damaged.

Apparently Parcelforce will let you send car parts, but you're not insured for them when something goes wrong.

I'm pretty peed off as I sent parts recently (20-30 packages) via 3 different post offices and they all asked what every parcel was and not one of them told me I wouldn't of been insured.

I wont be using them again, that's for sure.

 

Wow really? I know most don't insure glass. But car parts, found the list.

Items excluded from compensation for damage

Automotive vehicle parts and body work for example but not limited to doors, bumpers, headlights and other large body parts or panels
Cakes of all types
Cases (including suitcases and musical instrument cases) when used as external packaging
Ceramics or composites wholly or partially made of china and/or porcelain
Computer monitors - including laptops, all-in-one desktops and iMacs
Eggs
Furniture - flat packed and ready built e.g. tables, chairs, shelves, cupboards and similar items
Glass - Items wholly or partially made from or containing glass. For example picture frames and clocks containing glass or crystal items. Damage to other items in the parcel caused by broken glass will not be covered
Lighting - fluorescent tubes, neon lighting, X-ray tubes, light bulbs etc. or any other inherently fragile lighting items
Packaging (external) - For example, if items are sent in a suitcase, musical instrument case or in the manufacturer or retailer's original packaging without adequate external packaging, Parcelforce Worldwide will not be liable for damage to the suitcase, musical instrument case or manufacturer or retailer's packaging.
Plaster items - including plaster of paris, fibre clay
Resin items - including amorphite, amber and composites
Rock, stone and mineral items - including granite, marble, fossils, geodes, gem stones, crystals or similar items
Televisions - including CRT, LCD, LED and Plasma screens

 

I know you shouldn't have to, but I've found that you have to expect your parcel to be thrown around with little respect for the contents. Strong packaging with lots of bubble wrap is needed to protect the contents.

Glass/lights are not insured for damage with any couriers, only lost package.
It's down to you to package properly.

 

Thats a good point how did they get damaged? I pack my stuff well enough i can kick the box with no damage to goods.

I can remember we had a topic a while back about damaged goods, the amount of stuff i've received poorly packed. I've packed JDM lights before and packed them in tones of bubble wrap.

 

8 bottles of craft beer shipped from Scotland using RM arrived yesterday with 2 bottles broken - the delivery driver went out of his way to point out that he didn't break them, so much so I am pretty sure he broke them - that said, there was no impact absorbing packing material in the box, just cardboard dividers to stop the bottles rattling.

I bought some beer from Brew dog (a Scottish craft beer Co) the other day and was surprised when it arrived just in the box, no real packaging so to speak

maybe they have a deal with the couriers that they are responsible (no quibble) for breakage - as a condition of getting the business

 

I had 36 bottled beers sent from Belgium to London and there was no breakages.
I've also been disappointed with parcel force and no longer use them.
I use ups now for all car parts.
Cheap and accept parcels over 1 m long.

 

You can get most direct in the UK now from places like beer merchants.

If anyone knows where posts put bofferding beer from Luxembourg though I would be most grateful
