Default Spectre and bond in general

Well saw it yesterday and have to say I wasn;t blown away.

It's an ok film, but thats about it.

Don't think any of the recent ones have been that good, Daniel craig just doesn't seem to be a natural bond to me and removing gadgets and car chases (excluding the recent one which was tame given the lack of gadgets) just doesnt work.

Pierce brosnan was a good choice and they have def gone down hill since then.

What do folks think?

I didn't think it was a bad watch to be honest. Though funnily enough, a mate of mine echoed your comments about the lack of gadgets and action scenes. I get the feeling with Craig as bond, they're spending more time exploring the character. Which has ultimately led to the drift away from the big action sequences into a more in depth story line.

the films in the Brosnan era looked like made for TV films

although I think Spectre was a bit "meh", and QOS had a plot so complicated it needed a wiki article to make head or tails of it

at least they looked like a proper films, and worth going to the cinema to see not something made for TV on a Sunday afternoon

(and Craig is great imo)

I got the impression that they were very much going through the motions, as it was the last one in the franchise and no one could really be bothered. It was just badly paced and too many WTF moments. Bond by numbers. Certainly not a classic.

The Man from UNCLE on the other hand, whilst very silly, was far more entertaining and more like the Bonds of old.

Craig doesn't do it for me as Bond.

Having read the books, Bond was an archetypal English Officer type, so suave and upper clarss, don't y'know? Connery, although a Scot, played him perfectly. I always thought Brosnan a bit camp.

Craig? 21st century thug.

Fleming also said he based his character on some of the Commando's he knew during his job with Naval Intelligence during the war.I should imagine there were a few very hard men amongst that lot.

I think since Daniel Craig bond has obviously changed a lot, I grew up with bond and while I loved the franchise even as a kid I found it ridiculous. I mean the way he had just the right amount of gadgets and used them all (Eddie Izard did a good bit on this) he always needed them no matter how rediculous. The new bond is a reinvention and somthing that was needed otherwise the new generation would not of bought into it. There has been a lot of heat been thrown at Daniel Craig for being a bad choice but I think if his name wasn't bond and he wasn't part of the bond franchise I think people could enjoy them for just being good films. Daniel Craig is the most relatable bond so far, good for some and bad for others.

I think Daniel Craig is excellent as Bond. I thought Spectre was very good. Apparently the car has just been sold. I was going to ask if someone from here has bought it, but I thought not. I don't think anyone from here would buy a car that has been so thrapped and driven so rough to the ground. Engine would be proper knackered, wouldn't' it?

Spectre was ok first half but his meet up with Blofeld was a bit of a let down after all the hype "james I am the author of all your pain". Gets his head drilled with no apparent side affects. Then turns into a Bourne / Rambo / Norris hybrid to take down every bad guy in the facility. The ending was week as well and felt rushed.

I have no problems with Craig. Definetly changed 007 films into a darker more serious feel. And Casino Royale is probably me favourite Bond film.
