Default Chestnut festival

Off to one this lunchtime. Mrs Alcazar arrived yesterday, so now work stops and a short holiday ensues. Until I get bored and go back to pointing the stone wall in what will be the main bedroom.

The "Journee chataignier", or Chestnut Day, is like an old fashioned fair, with some amusements, and loads of chestnuts, and other Autumnal food.

Not as dull as it sounds, the chestnuts are a staple here, so you get fresh ones, cooked ones, jam, pickles, cakes made with chestnut flour etc etc. And don't forget the chestnut beer. I didn't realise there are at least six varieties and some are as big as a child's fist!!!!

There will also be local produce, last year we had half a large cheese that lasted two weeks and was much nicer than any you can get in supermarkets.

I'll try and post pics of anything interesting later.

Sounds like I'd enjoy being there. We're off to York for a couple of nights

Very good

A couple of times I have considered selling up here and moving to France to farm either Chestnuts or Hazelnut....

I've seen those Festivals, real community affair and a great day.....
