The hell with a circular saw, lets cut myself on a jigsaw...
Following on from my posts about circular saws, and the post asking if I ought to be using one, I'm past that and now making a sink cutout with a jigsaw.
Only the worktop was on the kitchen table and the workmate, leaving the centre clear for cutting. So I'm naturally NOT wanting to risk Mrs Alcazar's wrath by cutting the kitchen table.
Anyway, I'm getting close, so stuck my finger under neath the see where the edge of the table was, and in my haste, although I'd released the jigsaw trigger, the blade was still moving and took a nice lump out of the tip of my left middle finger and part of the nail bed.
Bled like a good'un, and is presently closed with superglue, wrapped in blue paper towel and electrician's tape, me having no decent plasters.
Not my hole finger, you say?
No, the one on my left hand...........

I use nail guns and circular saws and they are dangerous as ****. It's just the need to use them for work. I'm never going to use a hand saw for cutting 3x2 and the chances of me hitting nails in timber is virtually nill

I have had a trainee with me who went to use my circular saw. He went to cut a 4" strip from a board but the way he was cutting and holding the board the saw would of cut through his thigh if I had not stopped him.

Can I see your jigsaw and raise you a Dewalt electric (hand) planer?
On 23rd December 1999 I was building a porch on our house and I bought the brand new £200 planer that morning to speed things up a bit.
With a traditional Stanley plane, I always used to run my finger lightly over the blade to check it was sticking out before using it.
An electric planer does around 8000 rpm....
I had microsurgery on Christmas Eve to reconnect the tendons in two fingers (they're still slightly bent now, and tingle all the time), spent Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day in hospital and was off work until the end of February.
Dewalt were kind enough to swap it for a cordless drill after I'd cleaned it up a bit and explained my 'disappointment'.
Rotating woodworking machinery? No thanks....
