Who the hell would nick leather coats, passports and a pair of old Muskets?

Jewellery, yep. Cash, yep, Watches yep, but the feckin ID and leather jackets....WTF? What ethinic group has a penchant for looking like "the Fonz" Yeah, suffice to say the last 24hours have been pretty crap; broke in through a upstairs window, because all the downstairs ones were too secure

In addition, anyone have any idea where a ****** would try and offload a few old/antique watches and WWI flintlock muskets?

Namely a 1960's sqaure-deco gold case Breitling Top-Time chrono - white face, black chrono dials , leather strap (ref 2009), and a 1900's Waltham style gold pocket watch (inscription behind the the back cover, so uniquely identifiable)....I'd like them back - sentimental value.


Obviously Ebay and gumtree's covered as is the local cash converters and scrap gold dealer (who I know, which is handy ), but where else?

If by chance anyone does see any of the above online somewhere give me a prod - incuding a early 1990's Omega Seamaster multifunction with bimetal gold/steel case and bimetal strap.


Next thread will be asking about IP connected CCTV....keep getting tempted by the Swann stuff I see on offer in the Makro mail.

I just edited it to say which ethnic group likes to look like the fonz. I won't be suprised; I'm sure local scum would have prefered to nick my trainers.

Spare car keys found, lined up, not taken...so no interest in BMs and VWs. 'Leccy goods untouched, bar laptop and a couple of old mobiles.

 

Really sorry to hear this bad news Ali as I know how it feels! Completely gutting... Don't really know what else to say but at least it seems like you'll be investing in a decent CCTV set up.

as well, a lot of people have very good reviews of the chinese Hikvision cameras, their quality is just astounding. I never bothered to pull them in myself, as it would be challenging to get rid of them at the current prices on ebay, but their firmwares can be modded for better performance.

check that website, he has a lot of reviews. the good thing is, you do not need a separate box to record, just get a NAS drive and record to the drive upon any action happening in the defined areas of the field of view.

as for the passports - be careful, you might end up on a Missing Person's list, like those guys from MH370 - israelis with Austrian passports. where the real passport owners had their passports stolen in thailand etc years ago.

Or, you will soon receive a letter approving your loan that has been already taken out in some dodgy bank and as a result you will end up paying it.

identity theft is one of the hardest crimes to solve, as if it goes so far, you will actually need to prove it is you who is the real you, not the other person.

There was already a thread here about mistaken identity and bailiffs finding a guy who is innocent when the real guy has provided the wrong e-mail and other contact details. It ended by him just finding the real culprit and telling him off, but still not a fun experience as the databases have your addresses etc and you might end up having unpleasant letters.

So, I suggest you go to home office at first opportunity before anybody has managed to use the passports.

Terrible news. Burglary is bad sh7t. Hope the thieves get caught, your stuff gets recovered, and they get banged up.

 

Cheers guys, I'm kind of numb to it now, passport is cancelled - I did that this morning. Need to sort out the driving licence ( was with the passport) I have credit safe which informs me of activity (credit history checks etc) so I'll inform to see what they can do.- Using my ID is probably my biggest concern which could be a major ball ache.

Laptop ; I don't use it much so nothing on there. Desktop pc un touched.

Oh well I suppose that's what I get for tarting up the house - same with the cars I guess, but at least I can garage them.

When I've posed questions about home security in the past there was a 'mob' on here that accused me of living in fear and other such similar nonsense.

I decided some years ago that home security should be taken seriously and preferably before something happens rather than after the fact.

It's not the monetary value of things stolen that is the issue, its the items of sentimental value and psychological impact on wife, children etc that matters.

A bit stable door after the horse has left the building, but the best investment you can make is a proper safe and keep your valuables and passport, d/l etc. in there. I mean a proper safe not a noddy one btw.

Most burglar alarms are a waste of time frankly as by the time anyone notices or the police/security arrive (if linked up) the thieves have gone with your gold, watches etc. etc.

Ding, the criticism you got was for the 'I want to turn my house into a fortress' comment and the plethora of threads you started on the same subject... which seemed a bit to be frank!

 

I have a proper safe. , the kind you'd require a hiab to steal

The best thing is to have 2 safes. A main one which is extremely well hidden with all your valuables inside, etc, and a secondary safe which is a bit easier to find (on an office shelf or something) with just £50 in. The chances are the thieves will go for that and that'll be it. If you are ever inside your house when you have break-in and they demand to see the safe, you open the secondary safe and all they will find inside is your £50 unaware of the fact that you have a main safe with all your valuables in.

Not quite sure what your problem is with me dpb . Not once have I deliberately tried to offend anyone on this forum and if I have then I apologise, however you seem to have a bee in your bonnet over me with your subtle digs and replies. Quite pathetic and immature really but carry on if you wish.

 

Here's the thing - I do have a safe hidden away...concreted in the floor, problem is even though its sealed, it gets damp - not good for the old watches. And the wathes I wear regularly would be go inthere as then they'd never get worn.

My old house had a old safe from taken from a bank...anti-drill glass lock mechinism, dye bomb, the lot....we borrwoed a hiab to drop it into the garage on steel tubes and rolled it into place Roman slave style. The door alone needed three people to lift it....suffice to say I left the safe when I moved.

The problem I have now is they've seen the gun cabinet..... (muskets weren't kept in there, as its not a controlled firearm).

Anyhoo; I'm in teh midst of sorting a new passport (still have hols booked for the summer). Closest place with an appointment is feckin London. The furthest place from me - Glasgow has loads of appointment slots free....

Would you belive its cheaper and faster to fly to Glasgow and back than its to take a train one-way to London.


BUT....I need ID to get on the plane...doh! . Hopefully the fireams certificate will be enough.

A photo driving licence is acceptable for a UK domestic flight.

A valid photographic firearm certificate is suitable too
