Default Band of brothers , Pacific

Band of brothers was one of the best series I'd ever watched, I started the Pacific but never managed to get to th end due to something or other so I'm starting it again tonight.

I've just read also that he's making another called masters of the air, can't wait....

Been very good this far

I didn't find Pacific to be quite as good as band of brothers.

I loved them both and have the box sets on blu ray. The HD soundtrack to the Pacific is immense. The Hans Zimmer theme on the opening credits I can just listen on repeat. Just started watching BoB again from the start funnily enough. When you hear the vets talking about people committing suicide because they weren't able to go a fight for their country it just highlights how different a world it was back then.

Lol he did The Holiday as well which is a chick flick I don't mind watching at all especially at Christmas and his music plays a big part in sucking you in.

I stopped watching Pacific part way through and never went back to it. Just didn't grab me like the original.

I watched all of both but found Pacific too artificial due to the CGI stuff - it wasn't quite as gripping or gritty as Band of Brothers but I would watch both again.

Loved both, in different ways.

I think some people are guilty of elevating BoB in their own minds far beyond itself in reality - so the Pacific was never going to be as well received.

I gave up on Pacific after watching less than half of it, not a patch on Band of Brothers.

Another here that thought the Pacific was lacking next to Band of Brothers. The latter was some of the best TV I've ever watched.

I'm a big fan of both, but for different reasons.

BOB has the best characters and feels more familiar due to watching Saving Ryan and growing up watching Dirty Dozen, Kelly's Heros, etc. Its also much closer to home so seems more real.

I found Pacific much darker and depressing with less moments that make me smile. I think it gave you a better journey into what this war was like showing the suffering on both sides.

Remember BOB is about brotherhood and Pacific is more about personal journeys. I've read 'Helmet for my pillow' and 'If you survive' which the film is based on and its pretty accurate.

Can't wait for the next one

Band of Brothers gives a really good flavour of the feel of what happened and I think it is a great series.

From a historical perspective Band of Brothers is not that accurate
(I am a full time military historian so that is not an opinion but fact)

I have yet to see the Pacific. But I must get round to it. I think anything that educates people about quite how sad and awful war can be is good

Interesting you should say Band of Brothers was not that accurate. Where specifically? Stephen E Ambrose is supposed to have taken great pains getting the facts right for his book and those who where there contributed a great deal to the mini series. Where did they get it wrong?

Interesting - my uncle was a Lancaster gunner during WWII and was awarded a DFM - I find that whole era of modern history fascinating and find it a crying shame that we destroys so many of the artifacts to try and hide our history - Normandy is a fascinating place to visit

I will give you one example -

The 101st Airborne were the 3rd Unit into Bertchesgaden not the first.

3rd US Infantry Divison were the first. 7th regiment from memory, The 3rd I think were also in on the act.
Then the French 2nd Armoured Division
Then sometime later the 101st Airborne Divison. Those scenes of them being the first to Hitlers house ect ect are make belief.
However the 101st airborne took over that part of Germany as their occupation zone on the 6th of May 1945
(Easy company actually turned up a few years back down my way)

Cheers
Steve
