Please solve a pub debate-double yellow lines and parking !
Can anyone give me the legal answer to this one please ?
A street of terraced houses, no gardens or off road parking so owners park on the road outside their houses. Local council go through the correct process to put down double yellow lines to ease traffic congestion on this street and at the end of the row of terrace houses they provide a proper off road car park for residents. The land used for this car park was/is owned by the council.
Question. Are the council LEGALLY obliged to provide alternative parking for the residents as the yellow lines prevent residents parking on the road ?
No, I am not involved but no one at the pub seemed to know the legal answer either.
Cheers
Brian.

There is no requirement to allow home owners a parking space on a road outside their house. A usual myth that home owners had a right to park outside on the road. New housing planning rules u sually has minimum of 1 space and more depending on house sizes, but this is for off road allocation.
they dont
the council recently put double yellows outside my house and when i question them about parking, they said they have garages to rent , but they where half a mile away from where i live

Assuming this isn't a new build terrace I don't think there's a legal obligation to provide alternative parking. However, residents would have had the opportunity to oppose the planning notice. Since not providing alternative parking where practicable would just shift the issue to another location, a decent council would be sensible to provide a solution.
Sounds annoying! If I lived without off steet parking and had this done to me I would be annoyed.
There are no traffic wardens at all in the whole of my county so wouldn't be enforced anyway!
This sounds like englandshire? You probably have those clamp things and the risk of being towed too? I'd just park outside my house as usual. F@6k them!

Cheers all.
The street is Victorian so hardly 'new build' !
It really was a pub debate so I take it that there is no automatic right to park outside your own house and if double yellows go down…basically "tough" ! Council may or may not offer help.
Thanks
