The F-35 is a stupid design that will never work in the real world - you can't crank the power for vertical thrust through a 90-degree set of cogs and expect it to work reliably!
Bring back the simple design of the Harrier - oh, i forgot, we sold them all to the US (along with bucket-loads of spares) who are still actively using them

Problem is they have made a compromised decision; to save money on not having a catapult system on the ships, they had to buy the inferior and more expensive V/STOL F35, a plane which will also probably cost more to run. It's also a plane which we have no choice to buy know because the carriers can use nothing else. Lockheed Martin have the nose around our *****.
AFAIK the ships were built this big to have a thru-deck system, so they built to one philosophy, then changed their mind (twice?!) and installed systems for another. The result is something half arsed, compromised, and maybe not fit for purpose.
It's another military procurement cluster.
The big mistake I think, is that to anyone with a brain it can be seen that drones are the future, quite how our non-thru deck carriers are going to launch drones is an open question. Also they can't launch regular fixed wing planes so they lose on anti-submarine, electronic warfare planes, airborne radar, etc., ability.

i thought they decided we couldnt afford aircraft as well as the ships so are just going to use them as helicopter carriers.
with out all the supoort ships like destroyers and fleet aux they are pointless so will not be effective on current budgets

At first glance it looks like bo11ox, but then so did the thing with the F22 cutting the pilot's oxygen supply, until they rolled out a fix for that
