Anyone have a Bengal ......the missis is going to choose the one she wants tomorrow

Girls v boys (either way it will be off to the vets to be sorted)
She's narrowed it down colour wise just not the sex yet

Any advice that's not straight off google greatly appreciated as she's read and re read most on the net

Can't tell you anything over and beyond what you'll find on the net, my mother has two and they are brilliant, very clever. temperment is pot luck TBH, ours are very different regarding temperment the top one is a house cat and will never be more than a call away, the bottom one is a different kettle of fish altogether and will disappear for weeks one end, five weeks is his record lol the top ones a bit soft I think he might actually be a bit ghey, the bottom one will square up to bigger dogs than himself!

I've seen other cats come to the door when the F2 is away and the F3 won't go near them, it's a different story if the F2 is around though, he's very territorial to say the least.

I've seen the F2 being jumped and attacked from behind from a big ar$e tom cat before, only to turn and rip it a new ar$ehole and send it packing. they can grow quite big and have an abundance of strenght.

On my second one now.
Khan, popped his clogs a few weeks ago. He brought home pidgeons, rabbits, live full size chickens, a seagull and numerous rats. He was an F2.





I got him a little friend a while ago and picked Benny up from the local rescue. He'd been found with his leg stuck in his collar and the buckle had ripped his skin. He's a Bengal too.



They are loyal, loving, fearless and can be very loud.

I also like British Shorthairs but too much hair everywhere. I prefer boys over girls in general, they get bigger and don't always spray like most people will tell you. Females have sprayed worse in my experience.

Very loud indeed! Best cat ever IMO.

My ex took mine with her, asked for him back the other day but didn't go down too well.

He used to play fetch with stuff and had a very funny streak. You could let off a shotgun and he'd not bat an eye lid, but make a strange noise like squeek your shoe on the floor by accident and he'd bolt like his life depended on it. And as for loud, that meow lol. He used to get on the roof of the house and go to just above our bedroom window and meow soooo loud it was just funny, even if it was a 3am and it was echoing around the whole road. They speak to you too, especially amusing when they're sleeping and you talk to them. They are just like.. I'm sleeping, but I must answer still, all tired and mumbling a meow out.

Love their coat too, feels so nice on their tummy. Only cat I've touched that loves his tummy touched like a dog, normally you're asking for a hand full of claws doing that to a cat. Infact, I don't think you could annoy him if you tried. Remember he'd come in, announce he was home at 90db then jump on to your lap and come up and headbut your head to kiss you hello.

There's plenty of people willing to take pedigree cats these days. Dogs and Cats are always being snatched by local travelers where I live.

We don't let our Pedigree cats out. My mum doesn't her pedigrees either but she is considering a cat run or heightening the garden fence.

 

Maybe you should just buy a hamster then.

 

Sounds exactly the same as ours, the noise he makes when he comes home is unreal, He won't use the cat flap either but will stand on the outside of the door and miow like a ****** till someone opens the door for him.

My Bengal bad boy is an accomplished cat burglar. He likes to steal things. He can open drawers, doors, and cupboards. I have to put something heavy in front of the fridge or he'll raid it during the night, or when we're out.
He opened a kitchen drawer, grabbed a fork and brought it to me and dropped it at my feet. Feeling proud of himself, he went back to the kitchen, opened another drawer and stole a pen. He once carried a full 1Kg bag of catfood upstairs and dropped it on my head in the middle of the night. To be fair to him, its mostly his own food he steals.
They can be trained to do stuff if you can get them interested enough. I taught mine to give me either his right or left paw on command.

Each to their own and all that but I can't say I agree with keeping a Bengal indoors. I know some cats don't want to go far anyway, but I'd rather give them the choice. When I got mine I was all up for keeping him indoors. The lady I got him off did so with hers and it just seemed like the thing to do. After seeing him in action in the garden and just how good they look slinking along outdoors, I stuck a cat flap in and let him have free roam. He did actually go missing a couple of times but then I've since found out he'd go round other people's houses so it makes me wonder whether someone would try and keep him. He'd always be back because we had a moggy who he was great pals with. The moggy wouldn't ever want to go further than the garden of his own choice.

One of my neighbours used to put their left over sunday roast meat on the bird table, my cat would drag the lot back like he'd just taken down a zebra.

I was never a cat person really and I hated the moggy, I bought it for my ex as she wanted a cat. The cat seemed to dislike me too and I guess I've gotta give him credit for being clever really. I was decorating once and the moggy was pi55ing me off getting in the way and stuff. I was constantly shoeing him off and shouting at him. Then I clocked him on the window sill next to the paint tin lid with loaded paint brush rested on it.. When he caught my eye, his paw slowly moved to the lid and as he looked at me he swiped the lot off on the floor and ran. I did actually have to laugh!

 

Make sure its a reputable breeder. Ask to see both parents, their papers too. Also ask to see the living conditions to see if they are caged or home bred. This is important in socialising the kitten prior to homing. If they refuse, walk away. There are so many unscrupulous breeders around. Many people have been duped into buying a Bengal when in fact they just have a tabby. The Bengal forum is full of people asking "Is my cat a Bengal". The breeder should be able to provide lineage of no less than 5 generations. The kitten should be 12 to 13 weeks old when you get him/her home, and should be vaccinated, wormed and de-flea'd. They will also provide a contract of sale
I almost forgot to say; Don't decided beforehand on whether you want a male of female. Just decide based on the kittens personality. However, generally males are friendlier, females are more aloof, but it really depends on the individual cat.
Early generations tend to be quite timid and might only bond to one person. SBT kittens should grow up to be like any other domestic cat.
Its been said on the Bengal forum that their dietary requirements are different to a normal domestic cat, but I just feed mine normal cat food. Due to the hybrid breeding, they do actually have smaller livers than a normal domestic breed.

 

Cats are territorial animals and should be let out where possible, but it should be done responsibly. They're aggressive predators and can cause a lot of damage to the local wildlife. Unfortunately for cats they are also prone to episodes of carelessness and - especially at night - often caught out when crossing roads.

Breeds tend to have traits, personality types and common characteristics but not all Bengals are aggressive and not all Maine Coons are placid. In fact, my experience of the Maine Coons is that they are particularly social and quite bossy towards other cats and animals.

I've got a pair of Maine Coons but as a registered breeder I can't let intact and titled females roam around the place so I have a purpose-built run that they enjoy and I even take them out on a lead from time to time.

I let my largest female off the lead once and she shot off into the bushes and sent the Fox that was hiding in there flying!

With regards to the OP's query it is best to get into the breed's UK owners sites and contact a couple of hobby breeders, where possible. I tend to find this is the best place to get advice about a breed, other than owning them yourself.
