Default West Midlands speed cameras turned back on?

As of April 2013 all the of the film based gatso cameras in the west midlands were turned off.

I can attest to this a number of times by overtaking dingbats slowing to 25mph at a 40mph speed camera with me overtaking at a naughty speed...much to their annoyance and to my amusement (usually on my way to work on a saturday morning when there is pretty much no traffic about, and the cameras are located on straights with no danger areas - just for the record ).

Plus there was a few announcements in the media.

Anyway. All of a sudden new Gatso speed cameras have popped up at new locations.

I've tested them and they aren't working yet (ahem ), but seeing tomorrow is the new financial year, I have a sneaking suspicion that they will all be reloaded and turned back on. Afterall why install a camera if you aren't intending on using it?

Whats your bets that there will be no annoucements in the media that they are turned on? They threatened to, but no set date was given...new financial year makes sense to me.

PS. I've got some old tyres and petrol/diesel mix if anyone wants them.

......points free since 1996

Have they published the accident data during this period - did no camera's result in more or less accidents/fatalities

They do use these stats to justify them, it would interesting to know

Well speeding detection rates have gone down by about 75%. Don't know about accident stats. But the one new camera has been out in place just by a accident location.

I should know as it was recovered to our yard

Lad overtook a stationary bin lorry when it decided to turn right without signalling - tore the front corner off his car!

A speed camera would not have prevented it as the lad was passing at 10mph
