If you are looking at a starter SLR take a looka the Canon 550d. Excellent fir novice SLR users and very forgiving with the onboard pre-processing.

Aresome motors aswell by the way

what setting did you have this on? did you use a tripod. I have one of these and looks great to say it's limited to what settings you can alter.

don't get me wrong, i can get some great pix with the Ixus 90IS, I think this was taken with the nightime setting but I turned te flash off.. as that gets bounce back of reflective stuff like number plates.

when in Vegas i'd like to have been able to get a clear photo of the strip..

then a faster shutter would have been better on this, as increasing the ISO seems to loose clarity?

But then this came out well... don't know how I did it. lol

Taking stuff like this isn't easy when you have to know what settng is best to get the best picture..

I've had a photo printed in the Nottm Evening Post.. of the BigWheel, taken with the Ixus 90IS camera. I've since cleaned th ephoto up using the Kodak printer software to sharpen it up etc.. and then had it printed to a canvas... LOOKS very professional IMO. Ppl ask where i bought the pic from lol.... this was with a Tripod

I'd like to tak more red/brake tail light pictures... ie; longer shutter open time?

the 550D is quite a lot of money is it the same as the 500D but the 550 has 18.1mp instead of the 15mp?

If any of the bove come up at the right price I'll have a look into them.

I used to have the Canon 500D with the 18-55mm, 70-300mm battery grip and larger flash.

Lovely camera and got some nice shots, but sold it all and bought my Nikon. I'd never go back and can't recommend the Nikon D90 highly enough.

Even though it's 12.3mp and much lower than the 500Ds 15.1mp it doesn't make hardly any difference - unless you plan on printing large sizes.

Higher up someone said about ISOs - generally, the higher the ISO the grainier the image will be.

It is photoshopped but not to any great extent, lol and just like there is nothing to say it has to be a scooby, it didn't stipulate no tidying up with a pic editor ;-)

I've had some good pix from the 90is, I'd just like to be able to get better effects from it.

I'd of liked more time at Slot Canyon to fiddle with settings, these came out ok.. photo editing would bring out more colour etc, but still not bad for a point and shoot.

can you tell we were holiday makers!!! lol

^^
I can only go to F4.5

should that matter?

I've got a 16gd class 10 SDHC card today, on RAW+Jpeg it allows me 511 pictures.... or if i just go RAW I get just over 600.

Should I keep with both formats.. as it saves having to alter a load of RAW pix to jpeg.. after being at JepFest this sunday.
