Default WRX to STi, wow what a difference!

Ladies and Gentlemen I present my new ride. I am in awe of the differences between the WRX and STi and if anyone is considering the upgrade, I would definately recommend it.

Nice motor, good choice. I like the mud flaps. Now you've got the STi, answer me this. Did you have STi envy when driving the WRX?

Beauty, Is it standard?

Agree difference in standard cars would be massive. My Wrx is now basically STi spec. Difference from when it was standard is huge.

Although i should have sold it and bought an STi to begin with.

Would you believe the first owner paid £450 for them, way back in 2005. Better him then me.

Yes, I sold it last Monday and picked this up on the Wednesday. I can't function without a car, albeit I was looking whilst selling mine.

I paid less than that for forged pistons.
I'd like some on mine but i'm not paying that much!
I think they give your car a nice look because they match your paint

Right, what you want to do now is get yourself a second hand PPP exhaust system and then have someone that knows what they're doing remap it.

See that feeling of "wow" you have from WRX to standard STI, we'll get ready for a double "wow" after the remap

I was thinking of getting a Japspeed back box, which apparantly bolts straight on to the centre pipe. This should'nt need any remap, don't you think.

But then again, I was also pondering the warm and fuzzy feeling of saving the pennies for a 'Scoobyclinic' upgrade package costing £1500.

Decisions, decisions.

Just had a full engine rebuild done with forged mahle drop i pistons uprated oil and fuel pump, Hgs race bearings etc etc and had a prodrive exhaust system with sports cat, cosworth panel filter put on my spec d hawk. Put the 500 miles running in time on mine and got it booked in with Andy Carr on Wednesday for a remap. So on Wednesday waiting to feel the triple wow!

We'll put it this way.
Your car with the PPP exhaust system (including sports cat - very important) would achieve approx 340bhp if mapped by the likes of Andy Forrest/JGM etc.
It will pull like a train from 2500 rpm all the way to 7000rpm
Currently your car in standard form will not really have any "go" until 4000rpm
Then it'll run out of puff 6000rpm.

and you will . A mate of mine has just had his hawkeye engine rebuilt with forged pistons etc and I have to say the difference is incredible. The engine feels so strong and power is instant. His was mapped to a 'safe' 350bhp/400ft/lbs but will easily go more.

That power is the aim, about 360-370ish BHP and the 400ft/lbs. To be honest I was just after it being reliable cos I don't want to keep throwing cash at it, and this is where I've ended up

I had piston failure so didn't have much choice but I have to say even though I haven't gone above 3,500RPM yet it feels so much better than before way more low end power and no more hesitation

Pretty embarassing at the lights as I have to slowly get up to 30 but then once in 4th,5th & 6th its an animal even below 3,500RPM

Thats what his had (piston failure), so again, no choice. He was gutted at the time but I think he's quite pleased now. I have a mapped haweye STI which is around 340bhp and 360ft/lbs, but it really is nowhere near my mates on performance now. His just seems to have so much low down. Have fun with it, i'm sure you will.

With a full PPP system, I take it that the fuel pump would need upgrading too.

Very nice! As said, once you get a decent exhaust and a remap, get ready for a double "wow!" And you kill anyone who tries to take it away from you.
