Newbie - Prodrive WRX
Hey guys, Im Will, and I'll get it out quickly, but i come from the VW/Audi world, and have had my Scooby for a few months, was totally stock when i bought it bar the prodrive package. But instantly fell in love with the thing.
Been a lurker for a little while, but never posted, as new forums can be pretty intimidating!
Any way i know this may or may not go down very well at all, but pictures :
Day of purchase.
And how it stands now
Recently put the STI IC on, as the WRX seemed to suffer from heat soak quite alot, and really am astonished by how well it flows.
Any questions good or bad, are more then welcome.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Appreciate it.
Wheels are 9.5x18 Rota Grids, with et 38 up front and et 33 at the rear. They're Basically a copy of the Volk TE37's. As i couldn't find the Volks in 5x100. That said though i still needed to import the Rotas from the US.
I'll get some more pictures up at some point if you guys are interested.

And yeah Dave, from my experience i would definitely say so.
I used to get alot of heat soak with the WRX item, and with the STI i get barely any at all. Plus the power doesn't seem to level off high up in the revs, and just keeps on going, as well as giving you better throttle response. Be aware though I have got the pro drive package, so if your just on a stock WRX, you might not see as noticeable gains.
Jap Performance parts do reconditioned STI TMIC, for not alot of money, so i would give them a call.

Thanks again guys, really wasn't expecting it to go down so well.
Thanks Spruxxx - Im running on BC racing coilovers - Although ive been wanting to upgrade my sway bars, and drop links etc. Is they're anything you guys would recommend doing to get the car tighter and more flickable? Coilovers only go so far.
And Lee - Ive been a browser of the NASIOC forums for a little while, the place is massive though, so i tend to use places like hellflush and EG more. Hellaflush is great for pictures.
And yup, thats a vag night at Guildford which is called 'no-rice' they've been looking for a better location though, due to getting alot of attention from the local 'boy racers' in they're little clios and saxos etc, who normally then attract the police. It used to be at fleet services, but it got shut down as it was so busy cars were queuing up, up the hard shoulder to get in.
Boobiman - i sent you a pm back mate. Hope that helps.

Sorry mate didnt see your post. I got them through a place called wheeldude in the US. All in all after paying customs charges they were around 800-900£ i think. They were a nightmare to get hold of though, after having my card blocked for large over seas transactions, and then took 10 days just to get them shipped out.

very interested to know your thoughts on the ride, handling etc with BCs and those wheels and tyres - i went down a similar route checking out wrong fitment crew, wheeldude, t3hclap.com etc a few months ago and bought my grids from tsl in the end.
decided as my first mods on a semi-workhorse car and on our smooth uk roads (!) to go for the safer options. but i'd like to be persuaded otherwise for next time

The Bc coilies, are very, very good in my honest opinion, i mean coming from VW's in to the Japanese world was a huge step in performance, the BC coilovers are built to ride and respond beautifully, and have all the adjustment you could ask for, and no matter how low you go, they will still feel that same. All be it, i think they are a little soft, and i keep meaning to give them a call to get some full track springs, just to tighten it up a bit more. But i would highly recommend them, great service too.
The tyre choice isnt to bad, 35 profile are known to be quite a 'crashing' tyre, and when i had the 40's on for 20miles, the ride was alot better. But its something you get used to, and ive pretty much always run 35's on my cars, as i prefer the look of the less sidewall.
As for handling its self, i can not fault it.. i have yet to get it professionally laser aligned, and it still holds corners extremely well, in fact, when i first bought the car, and it was on the pro drive springs, it had alot of understeer going in to bends, and as soon as i put the bc set up on, and put it in to the corner, it was noticeably more flickable, and on the stock wheels and tires it was easy to get the rear out and hold it there. But in my opinion its all about set up, especially when you bring it down as far as i have, its all about constantly tweaking and testing until your happy with where your at. That be said though, i think i am past the limits of lowness on the car, and if i brought it up a bit, it would most defiantly hold on better in the bends.
Also be aware, that ive had to modify the inner arch to stop the inside of the tyre rubbing on the welds, ive rolled my arches all round, and notched my chassis leg so my drive shaft has some more room.

thanks for the insight, good to know. also are they 255 tyres? surely you can't squeeze anything wider than that on a wrx!
I imagine it took some serious effort - 9" wheels require some arch rolling and extra camber, let alone 9.5"s. but that's got to be one of the most aggro setups on a uk car, ace
i hope there aren't too many speed bumps round your way...

i'm also trying to work out if your us wheels are the same colour - there seems to be a metallic bronze available (the only uk bronze colour is more 'gloss'). know anything about the differences?

I'm atchually running 225's, they stretch over the 9.5's pretty easy, and gives you some more clearance, but they still rub slightly on the rear. Though i would say that's down to my arch rolling skills, as i need to go over them again really.
As for the colours, mine are a matte bronze, im not aware of a metallic bronze? Or at least i didnt come across it when i was searching round for wheels.
All i know of is
Green
Grey
White
Hyper black (which is a kind of black chrome finish)
Silver
& Matte Bronze

225s? same here, didn't think they'd stretch that far!
yeah that's the thing mine are matte bronze too - but some pics of us cars with bronze rotas definitely have a more metallic colour to them - maybe they're all custom jobs.
someone else on here (sorry forgotten your username pal!) had the same query about ultralites, but that's pretty clear cut as they've changed their finishes recently.
i'm probably imagining it!

Thanks Red2.
And yup Spruxxx, they definatally stretch that far, real easy to get on!
As for the the Bronze, they could just be wet in the pics or, like you say, i wouldn't be surprised if they're re sprayed.
Sorry if its getting boring, but i played about with the pre loading on the rear today, see if i cant get it a bit stiffer, and thought i would take a few pics.

That's quite something
I think that's one of the first uk car's from memory that I have seen running the US style rims with the car slammed so low.
I would get your alignment done sooner rather than later as I would not like to see you loose the inside edges of your tyres before you realise it.

No worries bud.
little update. Awaiting order confirmation and should be getting them mid September.
Seems to have taken forever since following the aggressive movement December 08
Loving the pics inthoughtwelive. Good to see it taking off. Done properly looks the nuts.
PS where's the side indicators?
