OK so it's not everyones cup of tea, but I got bored and needed a little project. So after seeing Darms', I thought I'd give it a go!

1. Cut front of grille out where the badge would normally sit, leaving the little sunk ridge all the way round:





2. Cut out the back of an old DVD or CD case (7cm x 10cm) mount LED bank and glue to back of grille






3. Take old badge (or buy a new shiny one :P) remove black from the back of the badge using nail varnish remover, leaving it see through with the silver stars. Spray a thin coat of white enamel gloss and glue to front of grille:







4. Chop out side light connections, re-connect +/- of LEDs & sidelight to orinial wires using a "chop-block":



5. Ta-Da!





There you have it, chavvy or funky, I don't care! I like it!

LED Bank - £7 (Darms of SN)
Genuine Badge - £22.55 (Cotswolds Subaru, Witney)
White Enamel - £3 aprox (Halfords)

Not bad there good to see something different about..... how well does the nail varnish remover work on the rear of the badge ? was it easy enough, no troubles with the chrome design at all and how long did you leave it on before before the paint came off

As for the LEDS, need some more interest before I contact my mate. Think he only does batches of 11+

 

Mate - its well easy I used cotton buds when I got close to the chrome. I suggest you use cotton pads on the main section and just wipe the colour off. No need to soak it in Nail Varnish Remover.

 

Excellent that's interesting to know... last time I cleaned the paint off one I used wet and dry sandpaper and it took some doing, I have one here to colour change so I've read this spot on time

 

You've got it! just use a cotton pad, comes off easy, took about 10mins! no need to worry about the stars, I've left them as they are!

 

I have to admit that when I saw this I thought, "Oh no. Chavtastic, here we come".

However, it's really good. Love it. Really original and tastefully done.

Good idea using the nail varnish remover to clean paint off the badges,cheap mod for folk to change there badges to STI pink.
(not with lights behind thou as it would look a bit like graham norton owns it.lol)

If anyone is brave enough to attempt this on a hawkeye then I'd like to see the results. I bought the lights from darms and then took the badge of only to discover it looks almost impossible to do. The badge is fixed to a mount which is inturn then fixed to the grill.
