managed a few nice pics, 400D with budget (i.e. sub £100) 100-300mm lens.

Nice photos What lense do you have? I'm going on Sunday and it's my first time there with my 400d and I have the Sigma APO DG 70-300mm and I'm a bit worried whether it will be up to the job.

The lens was a Canon EF 100-300 usm 4.5-5.6 2nd hand off ebay, when the Airbus is circling even 100mm is too long so you should be fine, saying that we were under the flight path at the industrial estate so quite a bit closer than if you are actually inside the airshow.
I did feel a bit inferior as most lenses were L series and at least a foot long, great if you need to see the colour of the pilots eyes

If you guys don't mind me asking, what sort of budget is needed to get this sort of kit? I really like the clarity of these pics and amateur photography is something I'd really like to get into. PM me if you don't want to post on here. Cheers, Dave.

I paid around £450 for the camera, 4GB card & Canon 18-55mm lense last year and around £130 for the Sigma lense.

You could get the same results from an earlier Canon 350D for upto a couple of hundred quid less, mind you the 400D prices are coming down. Thats my first ever airshow with an SLR camera but I read loads on the forums to get the best settings, have done a couple of rallies though, practice makes perfect.

Couple more pics....

got to agree with that, without the lampost it would have looked just like a normal shot of a plane doing a steep climb but with it...wow
