Default New Rear Lights...

.........sort of!!

Due to the fact that STI lights are so bloody expensive I thought I'd have a go at trying something different.

I bought a can of red light tinting spray and these are the results:

I'm really happy with the results and think it makes the car look a lot cleaner.

What are your thoughts?

Ben

They flash red so will fail the MOT but I have a spare set when the time comes. I might try some orange bulbs and see if that works.

Cheers for the comments.

I've seen it done with black and think it looks aweful IMO . I never thought of blue but think it would look really tacky. I wanted to go for a factory look and think this suits the car perfectly.

Get some orange LED bulbs eBay.co.uk: 1 Pair 12 Orange LED Car Signal/Tail Light Bulb (item 140111387517 end time 27-Apr-07 19:03:26 BST) like this. that should do the trick.

Also, is the paint you used a Halfrauds jobbie? If so, how much?

I got the same result using tinting film from Rockblocker. Orange bulbs still flash red unfortunately, but I've had no problems with police or MOT in 18 months.

I put Sti rear lights on my wagon and decided to fit orange LED bulbs to make sure they flashed orange, but didn't look like fried eggs when turned off.

The LED bulbs did not work....they made the indicators flash at double speed, like a bulb was out.

I went for the Philips Silvervision bulbs in the end and they were orangey enough for crows! (Kia Ora)

oh yeah, LED bulbs draw little current, so they would show up as a bulb being out. It can be fixed with a resistor.

Cheers for the comments, glad you all like!!

I bought the tinting spray from ebay (do a search). If costs about £10 delivered but I'm sure you can get it from Halfords.

I think I'll leave the bulbs as they are and see if I attract any attention from Mr. Plod. Thankfully due to my job I know most of the local Police.
