Default Is this an STI v5 ...

Would appreciate any advice. Is there anything about this car that might mean it's not an STI v5?

I'm interested in the car - but it's a way to travel so am doing some digging first.

Looks like it but foglamps are non std and splitter looks odd, also colour is rare for v5 so could be a v4 dressed up on a late reg.

Check chassis code for definate check.

The 7 digit "applied model" code found on the vehicle identification plate inside the engine bay is decoded in the following way.

Series code G=Impreza S=Forester B=Legacy etc.
Body type F=Wagon C=Sedan
Engine type 8=2.0L Turbo
Year code A=MY93 B=MY94 C=MY95&96 D=MY97 (facelift) E=MY98 F=MY99 G=MY00
Number of doors 2=2 door coupe 4=4 door saloon 5=5 door wagon/hatch
Model type 8=WRX 7=RA type E=Sti D=Sti Type R & RA
Transmission D=5 Speed Manual AWD P=4 Speed Automatic AWD

Thanks, great info - so what in the model code would make it a v4 rather than a v5?

I think the V4 interior was different, This looks right for a V5, splitter is also Correct

had a V4 and V5, the seats on the V4 have red shoulder wings, but not around the top, the V5 seat red goes wing to wing........if that makes sense, the interior is very similar apart from that.
Otherwise I'd say that was V5 for sure, but X, dont know, could be V6

That is defo a V5 as it has no front lip and the spoiler at the top is flat, whereas the V6 has a slightly raised lip on the spoiler and a lipt at the front. The V6 also has a clutch start system, where the clutch has to be depressed before the car can be started.

Well it's a Version 5 front bumper and rear spoilier. But no passenger air bag would say it a MY98 version 4. X reg only means it was first registerd in the UK in 2000. Best way to tell is to have a look at the white tag on the front seatbelts and that'll tell you.

Default V5

It certainly looks like a 5 to me. As stated above the V6 had a extra front splitter and a slightly different top half to the spoiler.
The V6 bumper was the same to look at, but underneath had small square holes for captive nuts, where the splitter bolted up.

As Trev has noted those are V5 onward seats and the steering wheel is V5 onward.

If you popped the bonnet you can tell if it is V5 onward by the location of the coil (off set on V5, centered on V4) and if it has a bolt on dump valve.

The passenger airbag was an option in japan and my V4 Type R actually had one added.

White was never a popular colour which could explain why it was so late being first registered as X IS normally a V6. having said that in the UK we have 01 tregistered P1's.

V5`s dont all have the passenger air bag. we need an engine shot, the coil pack is in a different place on the phase 2.

Because it is rare to find a white one, as it was not a popular colour when new especially at a time when the 22b had been out a year. In Blue!

Also they are rare, when compared to the 'loads and loads' of Blue, Silver and Black ones.
I had a silver one

These days, the colour thing is irrelevant as there is probably too may Blue ones.

I don't think I have said the words 'impossible', 'really-really-really rare', hens teeth, roking horse $hit or 'more chance of finding a virgin in a maternity ward', but - I do rest my case.

If a car remains unregistered, due to a new shape coming out, it does sometimes get a newer plate.
Hence my suggestion that the popularity of the colour in 1999, may have some bearing.

STAY WELL CLEAR OF THESE GUYS PLEEEAAAAAASE!!!!!!!!!!! tmc ****ed me over when i bought a honda crx del sol mugen from them, i bought the car and found out 3 months later that they hadnt even posted of the reg docs for me as the new owner, so heres me driving around without owning the car, they were very ignorant when i called them to complain as it was dvla that made me aware that i wasnt the owner, a mate of mine has also had the same issues with them and also other little nigglin problems that i wont go into in detail, they remind me of dealing with those bloody gangsters at Keighley trade centre, stay well clear matey, you have been warned.
