Brett,
You are at least 10 years behind the times. Skoda are basically rebadged Audi/VW's but at a fraction of the price.
Spec up a 180bhp Golf to Octavia vRS spec and it will cost way over £15k for what is the same car. The Skoda handles better as well.
Tavia RS's 225bhp Octavia was GPS tracked at 161mph.
I suppose if your image is more important than the car itself then perhaps a BMW would be more your taste. Just remember Subaru's image 10 years ago.

Chins,
Got invited to the launch party at our Skoda dealer as I run a Skoda Felicia diesel as a second car, couldn't make it though.
What's the ride like and are the seats the same as the OctaviaRS?
Cheers

Another convert to diesel power (me an Alfa 156 2.4 JTD, soon to be 175 bhp and 265 lb/ft). My god that should go quite well with that torque (and I guess lack of weight). Still got my scooby as well though

Its still early days to be really sure about the handling. Certainly isnt up there with my old MY03. The ride isnt soft, but its not too hard. Probably could do with lowering, might also need some 17" wheels when its been remaped. The seats are a little different to the Tavia, but quite good. Its certainly a lot of money, when you consider the Golf with the same engine is another £5k. Even the Ibiza which is essentially the same platform is another £2k

Hoping that when I get bored the misses will have it.

Stop being soo damn politically correct guys! It's a Skoda FFS! Chins...begone! Post this on some depressed ex-mining town BBS.

Can we really be talking about a Skoda here, the same car that had so many jokes made about them in the past. I quote "Why do Skodas have heated rear windows?" "Dont know!" "So to keep your hands warm when your pushing them!". How can the Czech dustbins be remotely described as a performance car? IMHO

You've not seen a modern Octavia vRS then!
It's interior and refinement is on a par with anything from Germany. Granted, it's not as quick as a Scoob but the engine gives 180bhp and returns over 40mpg on a motorway run. £500 gives you 225bhp and enough torque to reverse the earth's spin! I would suspect as well that once moving, the reduced transmition losses of a FWD car over AWD will mean a UK WRX will have to work bloody hard to get away from a vRS.
I'm happy with my swap.

I admit the Octavia does look nice but the Fabia or whatever the red car is on the front page looks uhm, well pants?
Sorry if i'm being crude, dont mean to offend anyone by my remarks. It's just my opinion. I always notice the Octavia, but this one i wouldn't give a second look.
