Modified the Standard pre-facelift grill a month or so back, and thought it was about time I posted a piccie.


(Although I admit to this being an airbrushed image i.e I have yet to take a photo of it with the modified grill)

Done by cutting the Centre Bar and Stays out with a combination of a Hot Soldering Iron (nice Smell) and a Dremel.

Centre Badge was left in, to maintain some strength.

Then filled the ends and Badge area where centre bar used to attach and and sanded and rounded all to a smooth finish (took a while)

Resprayed it 'Deep Green' (mixed by local paint supplier) and 'Clear Laquer', with the exception of the under bonnet area which was painted Satin Black.

Obtained mesh from B&Q (About £4.00) and sat in me lounge bending, snipping and forming the mesh to fit the back of the grill.
Painted Mesh Satin black and fitted to the rear of the grill using blobs of Filler.

In all, I'm very please with the end result, as had a revolution Grill on my last 93WRX.

Personally I think this looks alot better and only cost me around £20. Whereas the Revolution Grill cost £99 plus painting.

Don't get me wrong tho' the revolution grill is well made, I just prefer this look on the Pre97.

Looks really good. Much better than the standard naff grille and even better than the Revolution one. I've gone for the complete removal and replaced with mesh. I think it looks very agressive. It's one of those love it or loathe it things, what do you reckon?

I bet you had a Mini or a Mk1 Escort in your youth and removed the Grill on that too.

They always went faster without the grill fitted.......

Krud - Sorry mate couldn't make it on 5th as the car was confined to the garage this weekend due to failing it's MOT last week (Emmissions CAT test).

All is O.K now (I hope), will be getting it retested Monday PM. Just needed an ECU reset, clean-up of a couple of connectors and to make sure it's nice an hot for the test.

 

I have redesigned the pre facelift grill from scratch. Im pretty pleased with the result. Cheers Rob.

Didn't know the twin headlights were available for the pre facelift ?????

 

Dunno where he got the grill but it didnt have a badge. The headlight's arn't availible there the facelift one's modded to fit early model.
