On Christmas Day, 2002 I got rather drunk… I joked with my Husband about upping the mortgage to get me a decent car and he being drunk agreed… I spent the rest of the day, no… the following 4 weeks roaming around in a daze musically chanting “I’m getting an Impreza”… I’m sure I annoyed the hell out of everyone I came into contact with.
So, with the loan sorted I started to put out feelers for the Impreza I wanted (ok, could afford).
I thought for £8000 I would only get a standard 2L Turbo but after posting a pleading message on several Subaru message boards around the internet I was emailed by Chris Jones of CC Sports Imports. Tel: 01977 667292.
His email was kind of short and to the point. It just said “I have an sti2 1996 coming from Japan on the 5 of Feb. 76k km 7995 inc sva mot and 6 months tax...................cheers Chris” and included 6 photos of the car sat on the docks in Japan.
I mailed back basically turning the car down as I thought there would be a lot of hassle involved with grey imports but he assured me everything would be taken care of and included in the sale price of £7995.
True to his word I took charge of my beautiful WRX STi2 on Friday 28 February.
Never having bought a performance car before I decided to play safe and instigated a complete AA car check (what a waste of money that was – it only needed a rear wiper LOL).
So, Saturday morning, 1 March 2003 I opened the door to my new Scooby, sat inside and just took in the fresh smell of the recently valeted interior. I excitedly twiddled all the ***** and flicked the switches as I accustomed myself to her g-spots. With the mirrors and seat adjusted I turned the engine on!
Purr, purr, purr. What a sexy rumbling purr. Shifting into first I rolled her down the slight incline of our drive way and out onto the road… staying in second I edged toward the main road. I have never driven anything with torque let alone 280BHP of sheer brute power. The road was clear and I put my foot down… I was not; repeat NOT, ready for the instant acceleration or the “easy as stirring a milk pudding” steering. I cruised up to the dual carriageway and applied a little more gas. Woooooooosh! Head hit the headrest and I launched up the outside lane like a rocket. My Daughter and I shrieked in terror, looked at each other and burst out laughing for the rest of the short stretch of that particular road. Heads turned and respectful glances showed their quiet knowledge that they could not make anything but a feeble attempt to make any kind of a challenge without making an example out of themselves. As far as I was concerned, they were all driving Reliant Robins and Milk Floats.
I was in love – It was confirmed from the first insertion of the key – No... From the moment it rolled off the low-loader… No! From the moment I saw the first photograph (sorry, I cant decide when) - and meanwhile I had left my Husband as a mere speck of nothing in my rearview mirror.
Taking corners is effortless, with no rolling in your seat or having to hang on to the wheel. Acceleration is instant and controlled. Breaking is smooth and flawless. Reverse parking and point turns are easy-peasy. It’s a very low geared car and 4th is more like 3 and a half so 5th will be used more extensively than other cars I have driven... Also want to get as many miles per gallon as possible.
My music is loud – my neon tweeters are glowing and there is no stopping me now!
This is what I had before she arrived LOL

Ahh, sounds familiar!
I know the feeling - looks like a great car too Hopefully I'll see you around (being in Totton - probably see you at the joint Hants/Dorset meets? )
Ahh - and you think you had it bad with the Ford? This was what I was driving before my Scoob arrived
(although he's still doing us proud around town )
...and this is my beasty now:
...best colour!

Silver scoobs rule. The scoob looks well sweet.
Damnit, I miss my old rex.......had her for two lovely years, loads of memories (loads of reckless driving ). I think I might pick myself up a cheap STI 1 or 2 and relive the memories.

PeterB will confirm what my grin is like... he whitnessed it on Sunday LOL.
Its absolutely fantastic and I got through a tank of petrol by Sunday afternoon... only filled her up Saturday lunch time
She is in for a service on Saturday down at Triton, Hurn Airport - nice bunch of lads over there. Ive done 1000 miles or so since I got her and was told to give her a bit of a cuddle around about that mark so I am.
I dont think I will ever get bored driving it at all!
