I decided to replace the standard engine splash guard as it was well...........pants. Taking it off every time to do an oil change was irritating (lazy on my part I know). Long story short, something the previous owner did/didn't do resulted in the use of tie wraps on the back end of it every time
Anyway, after a bit of searching, I can across a company in the US that made a nice looking skid plate with an easy access door for oil and filter changes http://www.tollboothwilley.com/2004-...ay-skid-plate/
They are a tad pricey, but mine was in the sale so I thought why not.
Very easy to fit, matched up perfectly and came with all new bolts etc to fit.
It took literally minutes to fit (after cutting the tie wraps off the old one).
With the access door, there is plenty of room to drain the oil and get at the filter. It also attaches to the bumper so has given extra strength to that as well.
I did get a wee sting at customs, £27.26 import tax but its not the end of the world.
If anyone is looking for something similar, I would highly recommend this. One thing to note though, if you do order one remember the yanks drive on the wrong side so it was a "passenger" side oil drain for me
I know I could have made one at home myself, for the effort of making it look good though I thought why not just buy it.
Hopefully the pictures will have uploaded, this is my first time doing this sort of post
As yet no rattles at all
If in the future though it does start to vibrate, i think i would fix some rubber washers or something between the car and the plate.
I kind of want a matching plate now for the gearbox.

You can also get rear diff guards that look similar. Prodrive used to do a nice one.
I fitted mine today, it's a great bit of kit, only thing to mention is those of us that have the front splitter, I needed to remove 5 of the splitter fixings and use some slightly longer bolts with the splash shield.
Otherwise its excellent
How easy was it to bolt up to the front bumper? Did you have nuts on the inside of it?
It was easy to fit up to the front bumper, it came with these type thingys http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Spire-Clip...nAoRdmyGfzUnhw. Just pop them over the existing holes on the bumper, then it bolts straight up. Slightly longer bolts would make it easier to line them up with the holes in the bumper as they are wee bit recessed if memory serves. But the ones provided did the job anyway.
I would get the front plate fitted to the bumper first as its the most awkward, then slip the main plate under and bolt up loose at the front. Then stick the rear bolts in and nip it all up, then sit back with a brew and admire.
Its been on the car now since last August, and not a rattle from it still. So anyone still unsure.......do it. Oil changes are a dream to do now as well, I haven't noticed any difference in oil temps either (i would have liked to have seen slightly lower but hey ho).
