My P1
heres the first full post of my current scoob with pics. Its the first one I’ve owned and as mentioned in a previous post the intro i had to scooby ownership started with a bang, literally. The cars now fully up and running well so I’m starting to clean it up and get on with putting my own touches to it and hopefully end up with something I’m happy with.
i bought the car in a high state of modification and that is as follows:
STI 2.5 short with manly pistons
6 speed box
STI 5 ported heads
740 injectors
Billet fuel rails
Parallel fuel lines
Spaced inlet manifold
Fuel pressure regulator
RCM 340 fuel pump
GT spec headers
Harvey smith trick up pipe
MD321T turbo
ACT lightened flywheel
Exedy pink clutch
GT FMIC
Forge VTA dump valve
K&N cone air filter
Simtek ECU mapped by bob rawl
P1 Alcon brake upgrade
Perrin adjustable front ARB
Perrin 25mm rear ARB
Perrin adjustable rear lateral arms
Defi gauges (boost, oil pressure, oil temp)

http://s1366.photobucket.com/user/sp...0.jpg.html?o=0
http://s1366.photobucket.com/user/sp...w.jpg.html?o=1
now that the turbo has been rebuilt and the car mapped to a decent 379bhp and 399 ft/lbs torque the power side of things is perfect, next up is the chassis. Im considering putting some pink STI showa shocks on with the standard P1 springs but I'm struggling to find out much about these. Ive had the offer of shocks that are in good order, just need a blasting down and re powder coating which id be happy to have done if they're worth the effort, whats the general though on this?

May I ask where you got the set from and how much? Pondering whether I should get these fitted on mine.

Ive noticed a knocking noise coming from the engine. this is obviously very bad news. Earlier in a post i put that the engine was rebuilt but the bearings were never replaced which seems daft but never mind. If it does need to have the block stripped and rebuilt then while its apart are there any parts worth changing, upgrading or adding. the car is only used on the roads and currently running 380bhp but i would like to reach the mid 400's going for 450 max as the turbo is only rated for that. for the rest of the spec you can scroll to the top of the topic. so for ease of replying ill list my questions:
What should i replace, Upgrade or add while the blocks apart?
What parts are particularly recommended?(personal experience of particular parts)
Are there any engine builders who have any top tips or just general good advice?
in fact any top tips or general advice would be great from anyone!
thanks guys

Hi. I'm in a similar situation. My p1's waiting on a rebuild, though it won't be to the standard of yours by the sounds of it. It's got a knock goin on and needs stripped to see how bad it is. Engine wise it's recently had a remap by Bob rawle, a fuel pump, a blitz nur spec and a hks valve. Think that's it. I'd be keen to keep an eye on your build to see how you get on. Don't know what I'm doing yet as we don't know the extent of the damage.
Was keen on a 2.1 but the budget might not stretch to it right now due to other commitments.

Not posted for a while, Ive done a lot to the car since so ill try and mention it all.
Firstly the knocking noise turned out to be my pistons. Ive not had a car with forged pistons before and the slap when cold was unfamiliar to me. Turns out the engine is fine and running pretty well. it doesn't burn oil and holds solid temps consistantly.
As for things I've done recently.I started with the radiator cover as it was looking a bit crappy and starting to bubble with a bit of surface rust. I tool it off, sanded it down and then primed and resprayed it satin black. Having removed the intercooler to refurb it i decided to give the bumper bar the same treatment as the rad cover. While the bumper was off getting resprayed i took all the intercooler pipe work off and send it to a local metal works for a polish. The core itself i took off, cleaned up and resprayed it black. This was purely for cosmetic reasons as i wanted the front to look a bit cleaner. When the bumper was back it all went on. I replaced the Rear ARB as the perrin one wasn't really working with the STI rear arms. I swapped it for a RCM one which fits much better and doesn't fowl on anything, it also meant i could use the STI drop links that came with the rear lateral arms. Finally with the help of a mate i put on some BC BR series coil overs which i think finalise the chassis upgrade on the car.
For now the car is running and handling well (touch wood) so I'm going to spend a bit of time sorting a few interior bits out and getting any niggles sorted.

updated pic, New RCM rear ARB fitted with sti drop links replacing the perrin ARB and adjustable drop links that were on previously ( excuse the bubble wrap) and BC coilovers. ill get an updated pic of the change in drop next time i can., it was about 6cm at the rear and 3 at the front to level it out nicely. dialled in 2.7 degrees of camber at the front but that might change. Me and a mate fitted and aligned it all but i think i need to run it up to len an S4u for a proper alignment to make sure its all been done right.
