Default HID headlights

I have a 2002 uk sti, it has had HID bulbs put in, the query is that when you turn the lights on, the driver side doesnt come on. If you turn off then on again it then comes on.

You have to do this every time, it only comes on on the second attempt.

Didnt now if anyone had any ideas. I dont know what bulbs type are in their as i have only had her a matter of weeks. I was told about this before i bought.

Sounds more like a faulty igniter/ ballast

Yeah sounds like a ballast issue to me. They can go faulty especially if they are aftermarket.
If its the standard STi lights you've got then its H1 for dipped and 9005 for the main beam

Thanks for the help, ill look into it but to be honest im not sure what the ingniter or ballast looks like or is it an integral part of the bulb.
If so i could just get a replacement.

Try unplugging BOTH ballasts and swapping them. If the problem is now on the other side, it's a faulty ballast.

If the problem stays on the same side, suspect wiring or bulb. The relay may be sticking.

Don't blame you.
Osram Nightbreakers, Philips Extreme, Halfords ultra vision (but only when BOGOF), and Ring 120% uprated all decent bulbs.

They are made by GE, one of the forerunners of the "uprated bulb" market.

my bug wagon is being sold and has developed a similar issue to the OP's.

I'll go try and see if it works on second attempt but thought I'd post this vid I found as it may assist in troubleshooting or de-installation.

Removed the sodding system, now of to Halfords, hope they have a special offer on!

Intrestingly there's a second HID system on the Driving lamps that is working - so it can stay as long as the car's new owner fancies 'em

Those, or similar, are what I would use in an H4 application.
