Thought I'd put this out to see if anyone has any suggestions. One of my hid have stopped working I've checked for loose or broken wires but no joy.

I washed the car last night and thought maybe a wires got wet so left over night and checked this morning to my surprise both had stopped working!
Left again went out tried again now the working one has come back on but the other has stayed out. Could this be a bulb issue?
Also just to add only thing changed electrical is I fitted a new stero but surely that can't have affected the main beam?

I have done a search but nothing linked to my problem.

Are they wired to a relay? Check earths. Swap ballasts across to see if the problem moves etc

 

Yes wired to a relay and can hear it click so nonprobs there. Just confused why one is working and the other not? Think ill try swapping the bulbs over whilst giving all the wires a good going over

They get old and die...

Buy a spare ballast and use, if no improvement buy a replacement "bulb" or two and you'll have some spares....

Its defo a dodgy relay. Make sure you get the square block relay. My trigger pin on my relay was stuck open & 1 side of my light was on all night. Even if you move the trigger pin on the relay you should see the light flick on & off.



The 2 pins facing each other, try & move the 1st pin & the ligh should flicker.

Worst case scenario would be a dodgy ballast but I doubt it very much.

Make sure you replace it with a relay like this:




I had this HID issue on going for ages, after so much testing etc it was a perfectly fine relay which was causing a open circuit as the pins somehow got squashed together inside.

 

Thanks for the replies guys. Kas I can hear the relay click when turning lights on could this still be the issue? Will go pick a relay up tomorrow and replace it see if it works.

Strange I know these things don't last forever but there's been no warning so got me thinking its a wiring issue. Will investigate in the morning

Cheers dunx will take the bulb out when checking all wires and buy a new to see if that cures it but the relay one sounds like a cheap fix. Fingers crossed

Relay fault wouldn't let one work, both or none at all, IMHO.

As I said had a same prob & my relay was clicking fine. You should have a relay on both sides

 

Swap the ballasts over and bulbs over before you buy anything, I has to get a new one for mine a couple of years back, I had one start to flicker and then just stop working after messing about a bit i realised it was damp/water/condensation in the ballast, swapped it over and no issues after that.

PS, I doesnt have to be a subaru ballast, I used MY05 ballasts of a nissan infinity, Just like these

Appreciate the help guys I'm going to take both head lamps out swap them over to illuminate the problems.

Kas I only have one relay that works both sides. Ill take a pic and post what it looks like

Ok so out at the mo going to take the lights out see what I find. This is the set up

Do your rear lights come on? If so then you could rule the stalk out. Which one of the front hids are coming on? I would swap the ballast & bulbs over just to rule them out. I got 2 relays for each side. Also check the fuse box in the bay. 2 number 15s for each side.

It would also be worth swapping the relay just to see if anything happens. Hope you get it sorted. Proper pain in the *** that.

 

Ok so think I've narrowed it down to the bulb. Swapped the headlamps over to check the ballasts were ok and the working bulb worked on both sides although the (dead) bulb would not work on the side that worked. If that makes sense lol.
So both ballasts work, the working bulb works on both sides so took the bulb out to replace. Bloody nightmare!

Where can these bulbs be had from and is it worth replacing them both together or not?

Kas I was typing as you sent this but SH*T!! Didt check the fuses and I've taken the bulb out the holder now aswell.
Rear lights are working all other lights apart from this one hid. Ill have to check the fuses aswell
