Default 97 UK Indicator/Wiper stalk swap

Have done a search and all I can find is people saying 'just get used to it' and a few threads where people have said they're going to try and retrofit later UK stalks to their car and will report back, but don't.

Had my 1997 Turbo 2000 nearly a year now and having the indicators on the right STILL gets on my ****! All the previous threads about this subject are several years old so I just thought I'd ask in case anyone has done this conversion recently. It seems full facelift (98 on) UK cars had the indicators on the left and wipers on the right, has anyone managed to swap these stalks/switchgear with an earlier model succesfully?

If so will the mounting cage fit without too much modification? Are the plugs a straight swap or will I need to source new plugs and solder into the original car's wiring?

Any help would be appreciated!

Bought a set of later UK stalks with the mounting cage off ebay for a fiver, be worth it just to have a look to see if it looks like a viable swap or not! Will update with how I get on, if it looks too complicated I don't think I'll bother, I'm hoping the plugs will swap over or something simple like that!

Very unlikely, but keep us posted.
It won't be impossible, very little is, if you want to spend the time, but it WILL be time consuming.

Cheers for the offer but I'm not sure if it's going to be feasible yet or not. Even if the plugs are identical the newer indicators have their plugs directly into the stalks, whereas the older ones have approx 12 inches of loom with the connecting plugs under the dash, so it's unlikely they'll stretch far enough to reach. Looks like as well as the housing and indicator stalks I'll need the plugs and a good length of the wire from the newer car, and probably a few hours with a soldering iron.

Not sure I can be arsed tbh

Might just save up and buy a 99 Turbo 2000 instead

Personally I prefer having the indicators on the right, much better design. Keeps the left hand free for gear changing.
Get used to it!
Be interesting to see how you get on, wouldn't mind changing my MY00 uk turbo from left hand to right hand indicator stalk
