Default Keyfob help please

Hi

Just bought a w reg 2.0 sport and it came with two keys and a fob which is black and is rectangular, the front is covered in a blue sticker with subaru logo on it, it has one big black button and a red led light. I thought this was for remote locking but it doesnt seem to do anything. I notice in the roof of the car there is a black receiver so i assume the two are linked.

Is it a remote locking fob or alarm fob please? if it is a remote fob then any idea how to programme it?

Regards

It the remote locking/alarm setting fob.

Its not connected to the the black thing you have seen, as its Radio Frequency, not infrared.

Its easy to reprogram IF you know the PIN for the control pad in the glovebox.

please where is the alarm box situated so i can trace wire back to keypad if its in the car somewhere.

I did see a black box behind the steering colum up under the dash with a large white connector and a smaller i think 4 wire connector, is this it? if so it looks like the loom off the large connector joins into the main loom and the smaller connector wires go up into the steering colum.

I'm thinking now maybe the keyfob i have is not for the car and that it should have an infra-red remote as there seems to be a reciever in the roof between the two map lights.

Whats rekon?

To see if it's connected to central locking remove door card and look for a slave motor
Should look like this

Sigma alarms don't need the keypad to work
Look in the engine bay and see what model siren you have should have a silver label with model number
Once found follow lead from siren back to bulk head undo lower dash panel on that side of car and trace wires from there

The red flashing key is telling you the car is immobilised. This is standard on scoobys, there is a chip in the car key that matches the signal on your car so it recognises the correct car key to prevent theft!
I hope you have a spare car key too as if you only have one and lose it then your in trouble!!

Hi maybe, it had a Subaru alarm as well as standard immobiliser but it was removed because of a fault and the only thing remaining is the key fob.
Your car is immobilised as the red key is flashing on dash.

Dash "key" is the OEM immobiliser indication for transponder fitted in the key.

Early examples of the Sigma M30 were ditched by some car owners as being ineffective (suffered from Radio lockout) and Aftermarket systems fitted. (not sure which MY (model year) they started fitting the Sigma at the import centre)

I had a Cobra system fitted to my MY97 Impreza

The central locking system was activated by use of the drivers side door key to lock the complete car.

The slave motor previously mentioned was added to the alarm systems to recreate this action and make it "keyless" from the fob.

What "actual " year of manufacture (MY) is your sport ??

10th character of the VIN number is the indicator

W - 1998
X - 1999
Y - 2000

Hi its a Y so 2000

Central locking all works fine off the key in the drivers door

So any idea what the little black square thing that looks like an infrared reciever in the roof is? This is what i'm trying to find out as its possibly a different standard remote system

The systems he is referring to are the OEM keyless entry system and OEM immobiliser which are totally separate to the CAT1 alarm system fitted by Subaru UK at point of entry, although they are integrated so that the car is alarmed and locked from the one fob. Any button/s on the actual key become defunct.

Well, found this spec chart and it "appears" that the Cat 1 Alarm/Immobiliser for the MY00 Sport was "optional".

http://www.iwoc.co.uk/impspec2.html

However it still seems strange that you have a Subaru Sigma alarm fob, if you don't have the alarm.

No info in the cars paperwork?? You could always ask Subaru UK if an alarm was originally fitted.

These are the relevant sections from the MY01 Impreza Manual. (UK MY99/00 ones difficult to obtain). Yours will be similar but not necessarily the same but should give you an idea of what is there.
