Default Immobilser

So having lost the only key for my car I phoned a Subaru Garage to get a new key. They told me the car was an import (news to me) so I got a set of locks on Ebay and started with the hammer and chisel , it turns out that in, fact I do have an immobiliser as every time I start the car it cuts out almost instantly I think its the standard alarm so does any one know how to disable the immobilser ?

Others more knowledgeable will be along but meantime have you found the key pad near the bonnet release pull? There's a reset number that Subaru should have but you need to prove ownership.

I've got a problem too but I won't hijack your thread, hope you get sorted.

the immobaliser should not let your car start. It should cut power to your starter motor, fuel pump and ithink stop solinoid, a decent auto electrician should be able to bypass this, hope this helps.

Cheers will have a check there is a black plastic thing with a wire near where the key is and it looks like the immobilser but I thought it very strange that the car starts then instantly cuts out.

For information, The key will turn the car over and initially fire the engine then will cut out as the key is not recognized by the ecu so shuts down. It's not one of these systems that stops it cranking the engine.

unfortunately you need a Subaru garage to program the new key to the ecu Using a NSM the original select monitor with the appropriate cartridge (Depending on age), they should have the programming codes to do this for you.

Its a 1996 impreza I only ever had one key, black with a little red mark at the top if it, no fob the subaru dealer said they cannot do anything to help as their computer shows it as an import but to the best of my knowledge it is a uk car.

Subaru dealer can program the key they just obviously don't know how.

In the NSM select monitor there are different lead attachment's in case of no ODB port.
there is also a list of programming numbers aka teaching codes with the selected cartridge they have to use

That's only for the remote central locking, there has never been a facility to program the immobiliser circuit in this way, As stated in my previous post above the dealer has to use the NSM with the correct cartridge installed and use a teaching code to allow the key to be re coded to the ecu, done this more times than I can remember
