Electrics under the bonnet
hi,
i want to put a device under the bonnet. i need to tap into an electrical source with live and negative and will only come on when the car is powered up, i dont want it attached to the lights so the device only works when the lights are on, i want to power the device when the car has power.
anyone help? pics would be great just to highlight where i can snag onto a power source. im in a 2009 wrx but i imagine most scoobs will be roughly the same so any pic from any model will do, i'm sure i'll find the equivalent for mine.
any help would be most appreciated!
carl

What device?
Do you have access to a simple circuit tester? If not, this is good: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DRAPER-125...item2c59a13ded
The end with the croc clip attaches to battery earth, the sharp end can then be used to find a live terminal, or, by piercing the insulation, a live wire.
All you have to do then is check that your wire is live when the engine is running, and NOT live when the engine is off.
If the device is VERY low current, simply tap that wire and take earth to battery earth or body earth.
If the device draws more than, say, 5A, use a relay.
