The 6k ecu was fitted to sti models of similar age to yours, it rubs more boost than the z4 and in all honesty will not be ideal for your engine, and could cause damage to it. Sell it on fleabay and get yourself a genuine z4 which will be safe to run.

So what if it runs more boost? The spec of the cars that the Z4 and 6k ecus were fitted to are the same! TD05, 380cc injectors etc etc.

You sure???? So the sti map wasn't on the edge of aggressiveness and didn't have a rather dodgy higher rev limit, and it definitely wasn't also mapped around the longer duration sti cams, and freer flowing intercooler then???

The pre 96 sti was just a WRX with an alloy intercooler and was hardly more free flowing. Heads/cams were also the same as was the rev limit....being 7000rpm.

The only pre 96 classic to get a few more rpms to the redline was the RA in sti or wrx guise....

So yes.......Im sure..

Hi

Cheers for that, the engine is having a full re-build (decent forged pistons - proper rods etc) the car is only being used for rallying so not too worried about very long term reliability

Just need a decent set-up, maybe should of gone for a GEMS ECU and get it set up that way - just dont really want to spend that money before Christmas!! - it might spell divorce!

Sorry Martin but you are incorrect. Wrx rev limit was 7250 and sti was 7500. Made possible by racier cams and lightweight vacetrain reducing weight by 10g per valve to enable safer high rpms. There is an article which flow tested the STD black wrx and compared it to the silver sti with metal feed pipe and found they flowed significantly better when compared. Don't be so cocky when you clearly don't have the correct info.

You sound like my Mrs....

My old 95WRX had a 7k limit, My old 96STI had a 7k limit, My old WRX RA had a 7.5k limit and my old Version 3 STI RA had 8k!

The STI heads were same as the WRX, Hydraulic lifters.....The RA's had the better heads/cams with solid lifters.

Sorry mate you are still wrong. I have a v2 wrx completely STD with 7250 rev limit on the z4 ecu parked outside and a v1 sti with 7500 rev limit. You are right about ra heads having shims but the sti differed from the wrx in the lightweight followers, Im doing some rebuilding in the next few months and I'll take some pics to show you. The sti also had different cams fact. I'll measure the differences and get pics up when I can. Also search for intercooler test and one of the results is the test I mentioned before where they where comparing flow through the intercoolers. I know you may think that you are right but I have both cars in my ownership and can categorically say the sti didn't just have a silver intercooler.

The rev counters make no difference my wrx says 7k but it limits and revs to 7250!!

I can see I'm getting nowhere with you. I know the differences as I have two totally STD examples to compare in my ownership. I respect your view but you are wrong. To the OP maybe an ESL board may be what you are after, around 550 fitted and mapped, or enginetuner has a second hand gems ecu fitted and mapped for under 800 which is a bargain

Didn't Scott.T once look inside the 6K map and found that it was almost identical to a PPP map?

Well im just away to sell a 6k ECU with a dastek piggyback thing. I have a 2c in my car at the moment. .

would you say i should keep the 6k and sell the 2C

Ill be running (440's,fmic,td05 16g,cdb,rebuilt engine,standard box,parralel fuel mod,uprated spark plugs,)

Ill be looking into a ESL daughterboard as well. That better suited to a 6k rather than a 2c?

Makes no difference as the ESL board will override the OE map. Sell the one that'll make you the most cash.

the sti was meant to have forged pistons, and slightly more compression.
but they both still spit rods and chew bearings lol.
the limiter is down to the ecu,
ive heard that the 6k ecu doesnt like being attached to the wrx, id stick with a z4 as meant to be a really good map for the wrx, if funds are there then an esl would be much much better

Yes he did, pulled the map from the 6K a few years ago.
