Default Running a 220/240v studio light from a car battery??

Not exactly car related this one but I want to use a photographic studio light outside and as I have a newish battery not in a car wondered how I could rig it up to work. Is it possible anyone?

As above, an inverter is what you need. Just make sure it is powerful enough for your light and be careful not to flatten your battery.

Yep, that looks like the sort of thing. If I want to use it directly from a battery not through the cigarette lighter, will I be able to remove the cigarette lighter plug and doctor the wiring to attach positively and negatively to the battery, or will I be missing an earth?

That would be fine just put some battery charger type clips on the end The cigarette lighter fitting would have + and - wires anyway.

Ah good. I think the light I want to use is 150W as well so the Maplins power invertor should do the trick.

I picked up a 300W invertor instore in Maplins today for £24.99. As a bonus it also comes with crocodile clip connectors and works a treat. The invertors are on a promotion in the stores - not sure about online - at the moment so if anyone needs one have a look.

I've used this with a portable halogen floodlight: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/128343

With a 250watt bulb and works fine. Has a battery charge indicator and low power/overload bleeper. Crock clips and cigar lighter plug.

Just don't reverse connect the croc-clips - it blows the fuse!

Obviously it goes without saying you need a battery with a big Ah rating to use it for hours on end...a 250watt floodlamp pulls 20amps, so will totally flatten a 50Ah battery in under three hours! (the under-voltage cut out will activate at after about two and half hours).
