Default Morrette headlight wiring.

Was wondering if someone might be able to help with a problem i have with my headlights, problem being i have no full beam. When i switch to full beam the light comes up on the dash but nothing up front, my main beam on the passenger side goes out aswell but drivers side stays on. Have checked the bulbs and they are fine, have checked relays and fuses in the engine bay and they look ok to.

I have a couple of pics of the wiring which was done before i had the car and i have no idea with electronics, is it ment to look as messy as it does in the pics which is of the passengers side.

Sorry i dont understand have you got one high beam working and one not??You can check there getting power ok by sending a earth to the black wire on the bulb, this is because subaru have a switched earth ie running of the high low beam stalk

I must admit its a lot more complicated than the sti lights i fitted, but if they were ok then failed the only probible cause i can see looking at the diagram is the 5 pin relay on the problem side.Id try swapping them over and see if the problem swaps with them.As above if that fails you need someone with a multimeter to check feeds etc for you as if you dont know what your looking for it fast becomes a nightmare.Best of luck hope you get it sorted soon

Hi not sure if this will help you but I fitted some morettes last weekend and found this guide helpful http://www.northursalia.com/modifica...e/morette.html the only differnce is the black wire to the battery was red on my lights.
I had the same problem until I wired up the relay bit

Its possible youve got the answer there brown earths the relay and in the picture theres a spare brown wire,if these have just been fitted it looks like the spare brown wire been so short could have earthed to the car and not battery Does the spare brown wire go to the 5 pin relay

One side when switching to full beam i will have no lights and the other side just main beam which was already on, i bought the car with the lights already installed so have no idea whether it was done by previous owner or done profesionaly.

I'm going to get some standard lights to get it through it's MOT and then investigate at a later date.

So the brown wire should go to somewhere and not be left like it is.

I wouldnt have thought there should be a spare, the problem indicates a 5 pin relay problem which could be either a faulty relay or possibly its not earthed. The interesting thing is the wiring in the link above shows a brown going to a earth, when you take them of just check the 4 pin relay connects to a live feed and one of the 5 pins goes to a earth john ps if you havnt got a earth wire going to the battery it should be on the inner wing just behind the light

If i go down the route of standard lights will it be a case of just unplugging these and plugging in new ones, or will the loom have been altered to fit the morrettes

Had a quick look today around the back of the bumper but can't see any wire that the brown wire could go to, so i don't think it's been cut by accident.

Its more than likely supposed to carry a earth to the other 5 pin relay then but someone has earthed each relay individually instead rather than shareing one.Id try cleaning the relay terminals as one looks a bit blue in the picture and see if that helps

I'm going to pop some standard lights on to get through an MOT, then try and find out what's wrong with them.

Standard lights on and they work so it's a problem within the morrette wiring.

At least youve narrowed it down to that then, have they ever worked right? or did they just suddenly lose a beam.

I should have checked when i bought the car but i overlooked it and didn't use the car at night time for atleast a few months afterwards.

Have tried contacting the previous owner to see if it was like it when he had the car, but no reply from him.

Pity so it could be the way there wired, really all you can do is make sure both 5 pin relays are earthed ok either via one shared,or individually.Or maybe swap the relays. Its a shame because there nice looking lights,ps there is a really simple way to wire them so they work the correct way ie just dip and high/dip without all the relays which is how mine are wired and ive never had problems,i will check if its ok for yours

Its seems other people on other forums have not used the relays and have made up plug and play pig tails to fit them as i did with mine. You already have the connectors needed if you want to do it that way which is a hell of a lot simpler pm your email and i can send you the instructions.

Thanks again for looking into it, is appreciated.
