Hi all

I have a JDM STI 2003 and have just fitted an Apexi AVCR. I have one problem and one question and was hoping someone may be able to help.

Question: What should I be showing as the duty cycle? I havent got all the pipes up front connected yet as I am not sure what to put the duty as.

Problem: On idle, the car sits at 500 rpm; however, the rpm shown on the AVCR is around 2,200. Any idea how to fix this?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

this should get you set up and running, but i would recomend getting a mapper/someone who knows what they are doing to fully sort it out.

firstly run through all etc. settings

CYL number of cylinders. i.e 4
SPD speedo cal. goes in 4's. adjust until you are getting same
speed as shown on the dash. that is go into monitor speed.
bit hit in miss. also if your car is an import and your clocks were
modified internally to show mph, your avc-r will show in km/h
still.. although no worries there. just calculate what it should be
in kmh
THR. turn to ** for now. causes problems with half throttle boost
spikes

right so that is done. now in monitor you should see correct rpm and
speed kmh or mph.

now set your range for the graphs, cant remember the setting but im
sure its in etc. you can alter between 1kg/m to 2kg/m, the max speed
of vehicle etc. this is useful for graphing

GEAR JUDGE or something like that!!
you'll see 1st,2nd,3rd,4th,5th
and a little highlighted box. drive along at 2000 rpm in each gear
youll see a number displayed, insert this into the relavent spot for
each gear. thus rpm/speed = gear.
if you have a 6 speed car you can either do it so 6th is
unreplicated which means you'll get the same settings as 5th. or
ignore 1st and make each gear -1. whcih means you'll get same
setting for 1st as 2nd.. use this method if you are 2wd as you dont
really need the extra torque in 1st. use former method for 4wd .


now on to SETTING

NE POINT, this is the range in which the boost will be controlled
and target and duty can be adjusted for each. (later that bit is
complicated)
so set this range to co-inside with when you start making boost to
your revlimit. i.e 3000 - 7500

SCRAMBLE ignore unless you have overboost switch fitted.

FB SPEED. set all to off X to start

GEAR LEARN set all to x to start

START DUTY set all to 0% to start

now. pick your boost level, lets say 1kg/m (1bar ish)

so enter 1.00 in BOOST/DUTY

then enter a conservative 25% in DUTY.

go to monitor BOOST. go for a run in 3rd/4th.
check boost.
adjust DUTY till the boost is 1.00kg/m

this is the basic set up.

SETTING

FB SPEED set all to 3.

GEAR LEARN all to O

Go for another drive. give it a good kicking!! in all gears! and rev
it right through in each gear. i.e from 2000k to just before limiter.

after you have done this go into BOOST/DUTY

if the DUTY part has stars *** in the box the AVCR has started to
learn.. if not,, check you have enabled learn gears and speeod
setting is right etc.. and take it for another good kicking.

once all is well.

you'll notice on your boost gauge some gears the boost will swing on
slowly or over shoot. this is FB SPEED adjustment time..

FB SPEED is basically the strength of the close loop boost control..
too high like 9 and the boost will flicker as the control will be
too sharp and too low like 1 and the boost control will be sloppy. 3
is a good start.

once you have a nice smooth boost in each gear you may notice you
are over-boosting and under-boosting, (this most likely in 1st and
2nd)

START DUTY

say for example your boost is sluggish in 1st. add 5% duty. run 1st
gear, see what happens to boost. should swing on a lot more
strongly. adjust all gears that under boost till you are happy,,
this also is a quicker way to create gear dependant overboost,
rather than adjusting the DUTY curve.

if in high gears you are getting an overboost you must -% from your
start duty.


ADVANCED TUNING

you can independantly adjust each NE POINT for desired boost and
duty.

for example.. on a car which has a small injectors or ineffeicient
turbo to drop boost off as revs increase.. for this enter turn off
all learn fucntions BOOST/DUTY
highlight boost and press enter.. youll see a bar chart adjust each
ne point to the desired boost for you complete rev range. once this
is done do the same with the DUTY graph.. so that your actual boost
matches desired boost throughout all ne points. then turn back on
learn functions and re run. the AVCR will make small adjustments to
each ne point. then start duty and fb speed needs adjusting

The above process will take a long time to learn to get it accurate.
and i could spend all evening writing about it. yawn
i think this should get most people pretty ok with the avcr.

daone mine is set to 1.2 at 55% duty cycle

i was told this equates to 1.7 bar is this correct

what ever boost you are peeking at, it will show iton the avcr, one of the arrow buttons keeps the peek boost reached

on my avc-r i have A set at 85% boost and 55% duty, on B i have 1.10 boost and 67% duty,

start dutys on A are 1st - 3% 2nd 3% 3rd 4% 4th and 5th 5% and it runs really smooth throughout the range on B i increase it by 1% across the range.
