Default Urgent! Dash lights staying on!

Its really annoying me this! I cant figure it out for the life of me.

The dash lights are staying on all the time. I've made sure the parking light switch is off on the top of the steering wheel.

Its just the dash lights staying on.

I've checked all the fuses, they are fine.

the only way to turn them off is to remove the 3rd fuse in the main fuse box under the bonnet (15amp). But this also stops the central locking working!

I'm looking to sell soon(ish) so needing it sorted asap!!

Please help Scoobynet Gurus

Edit::: Its actually the 4th fuse whicg is the clok/room fuse. fuse 30 in the handbook.

Also the drivers door will still lock/unlock with the fuse out and all doors will lock/unlock with the fuse in.

Just a bit more info for you guys.

thanks in advance

Could be a faulty lighting switch.

You'd need to trace the wiring, then, and look for a fault, see if there is a wire earthing anywhere that didn't ought to be.

But I WOULD check the switch first

How would i go about checking the switch?

also when you say switch do you mean the one on the top of the dash or the actual light stalk?

The light stalk. Remove the shrouds around the steering wheel, three screws from underneath iirc, then the whole stalk can come out by undoing two screws and releasing the wiring connector.

UNFORTUNATELY, about the only way to tell if it is faulty is to substitute a known working one...........

If the lights are off when the switch is disconnected and you then plug the switch back in they come on surely this puts it down to the switch and further tests can be done on the switch with a meter whilst sat in the warmth.

the only thing is if you disconnect the switch then you completly break the circuit and the lights would go off, to test it you would really need a working one to plug back in.

If there is someone around you that has the same model they might be nice enough to give you a hand to test yours.

Got a bit more info on this, the dash lights till work when turning the lights on, but when you turn the lights on you can hear the doors trying to lock or unlock.

Also the lighst that stay on with fuse 30 in are the the lights behind the speedo/rev counter. Not the full dash lights.

Odd!

Hi has this JUST started on its own or have you had any work done recently like a new alarm/HU etc ?
Seems very strange to start like this for no reason,
Have you fitted a HID kit or any of those Daft uprated Bulbs at all?

Is this going to be an alarm problem?
