Right. Plot thickens...
Got power back to the head unit and gauges
- the 15A blue fuse (bottom row; 2nd one in from bulkhead end, in the fusebox by the accelerator) had indeed blown... BUT...
...now a NEW problem!...
...Nothing whatsoever coming from the speakers!!!
i.e. with Vol. turned right up, no background hiss (totally silent) on AUX and TUNER (no aerial fitted yet - need DIN to ISO adapter
)... and no music from the CD!
(they worked fine last night
)
Obviously there is no power getting to the speakers. I checked every single 10, 15 & 20A fuse in that footwell fusebox and all are intact.
Is there a fuse dedicated to the speakers' loom anyway?
If not, then surely it can only be the ISO speaker harnesses' coupling that has come adfrift (but I did make sure the locking tab was secured
). Oh well, I'll have to check again tonight
...
Anybody know why the speakers have no power to them (regardless of my hypothesising above)? It's driving me nuts now!!!

Is there an output fuse on the rear of the headunit? My Sony has one.
Also, have you looked for and pressed any reset button on the headunit? Reference to the manual helps here.
If it's neither of those, could you have blown the output transistors?

What, even if there's power to the unit, though? (it all works fine... except the speakers!).

Groan - looks like I have knackered the head unit's amplifier and/or transistors.
When Vol. is on '0' (off) no sound whatsoever.
When Vol. is on '1' (min) to '34' (max) then very faint electrical noise through the speakers... which is the same level, whether at 1, 34, or anywhere inbetween.
To double-check, I disconnected the speaker section of the ISO harness and, as expected, the faint noise disappears - so the speakers are okay... Must be the head unit that's knackered(?).
Anybody agree?
NOTE: However, you can hear faint beeps when pressing buttons - is there a way of resetting/rebooting the CDX-GT23? (there's no little reset recessed hole on the front like you often see).

Yeah, well sussed tt, and thanks a lot.
... It was probably the transistors blowing that caused the 'centre console accessories' fuse to blow, too.
Thing is, these units go for circa <£40 all in 2nd hand on ebay (as was this one) - how much would an ICE repairer charge?
Surely cheaper to get another, yes?
(there's another two on ebay as I write this)...

My radio aerial has stopped working - coax must have a break in it.
How hard is it to substitute the old coax cable with a new one? It looks like it could be a real pain trying to thread it from the centre console area through to the aerial on the A-pillar?

Anyone done/know this, etc.?

Thought of undoing the aeriel, cutting off the wire, and using it to pull the new one through?
Or do it in reverse: tie a strong string to the coax end and pull it out at the aeriel end, then use the string to pull the new one back through.
Old electrician's trick

If I had a brain I'd be (sort of) useful
Brilliant idea, cheers tt.
Just one other question: how do you detach the coax from the aerial end?
Do you just undo those two small screws that hold the aerial's black plastic base to the A-pillar, to get access?
