Default Fitting REMOTE central locking to a car with key-op.

How difficult is it? Anyone done it, had it done? What sort of cost?

Car is a 98 UK car, c/l but no remotes, never has had from new.

TIA

Suppose it would be better to get it wired in with an alarm?

Since I posted this, I've had a quote: £130 if the driver's door has a motor, (ie: if the car can be central-locked with the key from, say, the passenger side front door), or £170 if not.
I fear it will be the latter

the car will require a door motor putting in the drivers door to activate the oe central locking.older scoobs have whats called partial central locking eg put the key in the drivers door and turn it to lock and all the cars doors lock but if you put the key in any other door it just locks that door and not any other!

you will need a remote cdl kit and a door motor to do the job, prob looking about 160 ish i would think to do it
hope this helps

Yep, what you posted is almost on the nail for price. (See my post above).

Have you done it then? Had it done?

hi m8,
does your car central lock via the drivers door key? if so you wont need the door solenoid.
i can teel you that the price you have quoted , must have about £100 labour.
you can buy door solenoid for about a tenner, and remote locking kit for about£30-40 , from Microscan. have you got a maplin store near you, think they sell them.
it really is fairly easy to do, if you basic mech/elec skills.
if you lived around the bridgend, south wales area, i would do it for you, no probs.
