Question I need better lights . Which ones ???

My 94 wrx has the worst lights I have ever driven with . I'm wondering what upgrade is best ? I have been told crystal headlights are better and will fit without a facelift . Or morette quad lamp but have heard of a supply problem . Or would I be better off changing the fogs for driving lamps , if so what are the options as regards brackets / lamps . Price is a bit of a concern so don't suggest a wrc lamp pod with full hids , its just out of my range .
Thanks

Nigel

OK, I'll bite:
1. DO NOT fit crystal lights and expect a miracle, they are as bad as the standard ones Or worse

2. Morette quad optics: better, if you can still get them, not cheap, and I've had ZERO supply problems in mine. Main beam is pretty good, dip is better than OE due to better designed lights.

HID's: you CAN fit an HID kit to your existing lights, but there are issues with the H4 fitting. Some say they are OK, others have removed them. Be carerful: some of those who push them the hardest are selling them

You could put driving lights in place of the fogs, but that only improves main beam, unless you can get a kit that will allow you to fit the Oscar H4.............

Ive posted the templates up for fitting spotlights in the standard holes. They can take Hella 500 , Oscar + and so on. Just look in the workshop manual thread.

Costs:

I got 4 stainless steel templates made up for £20
2 x Hella 500 for £30 {new}
2 x Cibie Oscar + for £35 {2nd hand}

Any spotlights upto 7" will do though.

*edit just added the template*

open it up in your photoshop or paintshop pro and print it out, if you try to print it out in the windows it comes out the wrong size for some reason.

I you use 7" lights you need to cut off the mounting bracket on the lights and drill through the back to the mounting template. if its 6" or so it bolt through the bottom middle hole on the template. Some little trimming to the bumper behind the hole will be needed though.

To adjust the lights, its a matter of packing washers behind the template to make the adjustment. You can get longer bolts and washers from B&Q for pennies.

Thanks for your replies - I've got some thinking to do

HID's in my standard lamps & driving lamps in my fog's maybe the way to go?

HIDs in your standard lamps WILL improve things no end.

Nothing but great feedback on our kits and none of our customers have gone back to halogens

Driving lights are also worthwhile if you do alot of main beam driving.

Mate its not easy choice,

Many classic owners have gone down the HID kit route and loved them; others have reverted back and opted for just higher quality bulb instead.

I went down the Projector Retrofit route - admittedly a lot more work but 100% better than standard headlights.

IMO - Get down to your next local meet and check the options out 1st hand.
