Knock Sensor
Does anyone know where the PO327 knock sensor is located on my 2002 Bugeye WRX, also what causes it to show a fault (Knock sensor 1 circuit low input bank 1 or single sensor) and what does this sensor do
on the classics its buried down on the block under the intercooler, so i suspect it is in the same locaton on a bugeye... i'm sure someone else will say for deffinate
the sensor "listens" for det (knock), which is the premature explosion of the air-fuel mixture in the cyclinder before the spark. this situation can be brought about by a lean mix, excessively high temperature of the charged air (high boost, ect), a faulty MAF sensor which tells the ECU a load of ****e so it messes up the fueling and "bad" fuel or fuel of a low octane rating. under these condtions the compression stroke may be enough to detonate the air-fuel mix. this tries to force the piston down on a power stroke early putting massive loads on the con rods, small amd big ends and crankshft. Worth being a bit scared of this as you can end up with pitted or even melted pistons, bottom-end failure etc...
Are you running it on good fuel (V-power)? any other symptoms (poor/fast idle, boost cut, etc)? It could be that the knock sensor itself is playing up.
I had a knock sensor code just under a year ago and that was down to a faulty mass air flow (MAF) sensor. I'm actually getting the same fault code again now, which could be the MAF again (2nd hand!) or bad fuel or a knackered knock sensor. I put my car on the rollers a couple different occasions last year and the air-fuel ratio was good and the guy listend on det cans and reported her det free.
bit of a long description, hope it helps a bit tho mate!

Thx for that Ash,
I use ASDA Ordinary unleaded - 95 RON, every now and again i give it a treat and put super in, with the cost of petrol and the mpg you get from these engines, this is more than likely what is causing my problem

Now i've got P0340 camshaft knock sensor (which i replaced last year)
and P0031 H02S Heater control circuit low (bank 1 sensor 1) what ever this does, both these are showing up now any ideas anyone please

Cheapest place to get a P0031 H02S Heater Control sensor, is there anyway to check this before I buy a new one
Is this a standard sensor for any other cars
