Default Blob rear bulbs?

Anyone know why Blob rear light bulbs have a twin filament bulb, a brake and rear light combined, when only the rear light filament lights and the brake is a separate bulb altogether?
Has anyone has fitted Leds, if so what part numbers are they and where from? Are they any better or just more reliable.

Many cars use twin filament 'stop/tail' bulbs as 'fog/tail', although I don't think the Scoob does I fitted LED indicators which worked very well, much better than the early Silvatec 'detango' bulbs which were dangerous. I tried doing the brake light but as the bulb enters at an odd angle and LED's are extremely directional it would never have worked without modifying the bulb mountings.
