Ecu help
ummm no ,imo.
If you intend to more mods then getting a remappable solution and do lots of mods at the same time would make economical sense as everytime you do a major mod you'll get the expense of another remap etc.

To name just a few as there are so many options for remapping imprezas
it would be a good idea to sort the ecu out even without an exhaust if your car has the SB ecu,it runs a crazy map and won't do your engine any favours at all.my ra had it and was det'ing like hell till i changed it,was very lucky i did'nt have to get a rebuild.
like above, there's loads of options open to you but if your keeping the mods simple you would be hard pushed to beat a polarperformance chip,my 95 ra runs very sweet with it fitted.people might bang on about generic maps, bespoke maps etc but for under 200 quid scott's solution is very good and by far the best value.
