Default Speedo stopped working...

After posting a thread over the weekend about my revs no going above 4500rpm a cuple of the lads on here helped me come the conclusion that my ECU is doing this as there is no speed input as my Speedo stopped working the day before...this is restricting my revs to 4.5krpm

so...

whats likely to be up with the speedo? is it just a fuse, or is the cable broken? i dont like the idea of having to trace the cable to find where the error is!!

Any tips?

On my 93 wrx the cable is easy to find as it's underneath the intercooler (found this out when my cable converter broke).
It may have broken at either the speedo head end or the gearbox end.

mine though, is a GL model converted to a WRX so it MIGHT not be the same setup! not sure though.

I took the dash apart and traced the cable to the speedo and its connected at the back fine. then traced the cable thru 2 engine bay and all seems in order!

The one advantage is my milage isnt going up!!!!

how much is this likely to cost me at the garage?
