Default Where can I find "truly" white LED sidelights for a bugeye?

I recently installed my 4300K HID kit, and put in some LED bulbs advertised as bright white from ebay, but when I installed both together, I've found that the sidelights look blue in comparison, which looks a bit naff when both are on together.

In addition, although the car passed its MOT, strictly speaking the sidelight bulbs would have been a failure (if my MOT tester was more stringent ), as they're blue tint, and the tester informed me that light emitted from the front of the vehicle should (really) only be white or yellow, so I'm looking to change em.

Can anybody advise me where I can find proper white LED sidelights that will better complement my HID's?

TBH, you'll struggle. I've just checked out some of the brightest, whitest LED's on the Rapid Electronics website, and their chromaticity co-ordinates (** look it up on Wikipedia), put even the best firmly around a colour temperature of 10,000K, VERY blue-purple.

I think you might be right! These ones are advertised at 4500K, but I don't fancy paying £35 for the privelege!

Cheers everybody for the links and the advice

Looks like I'm gonna need to do these ASAP - the cheap cr*p ones I bought for £5 off ebay have started flashing like they've got a bad connection and they've only been in a week. How rubbish is that!?

I may go for the ones off HID 4 u or the 5500K ones that RB5 Jeff unless I can get some via Aztec performance for less - well happy with their HID kit after all. I'll post some pics of the results.

Cheers Granby - I've just ordered a set of these now as two people had recommended them. I notice they're "anti-vibrate" - wondering whether that's the problem I'm having with the ones I bought off fleabay...

Don't forget to report back what they're like when they arrive and are installed. I might do similar.

The flashing is due to a failure to protect from voltage spikes, I've never had any last more than a year.... so won't pay silly money for them.

DunxC

P.S. My own led mod for my car also failed within a year, so now re-built with a voltage regulator....

Thumbs up

Thanks again for the replies.
Fitted the replacements today - bought them from Granby's suggested link.

At £11.50 they're not cheap, and not as bright as the ones they are replacing (well, not seemingly so in daylight anyway), but I'm hoping they may last a little longer than dunx suggests. They are certainly more solidly built and fit better into the connector, and they ARE white, rather than being blue and saying they're "pure white."

Doesn't surprise me what you say though dunx - let us know if you come up with a lasting, working formula to iron out the voltage spikes mate - you might have some customers !

Pics below:

I'll reply back to this thread if I have more problems, but hopefully these replacements will serve me better.

Incidentally - pic of the old ones I'm replacing is below - I suggest you don't buy similar items off ebay - they were truly shocking - lifetime of 1 week....

Btw is it difficult changing the sidelight because I got bright side lights (from autobulbs direct) to match my 6000k HID's and it is a nightmare changing it.

I few places I went to said I had to take the bumper off and others say I need to take the grill off to get to the headlight.

Which 1 is it?!

Its a 53 wrx sti (blobeye)

Don't know about blob, but I can change my sidelight without doing either - you need a pair of long nosed pliers and a bit of cloth to stop damaging the housing, but you just turn the bulb holder about 30 degrees and they pop out. It's then just a case of removing old bulbs, fitting new ones and that's it. You certainly don't need to remove the bumper - that would be totally OTT

Took me all of 2 minutes to fit the new sidelights and I didn't have to remove anything.

You need to take the grille out, then undo the 2 bolts on top of the headlamp and 1 bolt hidden behind the bumper (the part between headlamp & grille) you can then pull the headlamp out but be very careful as it catches on the bumper a little bit

i had problems with my classic sidelights steaming up a bit, and discovered that the standard bulb is supposed to heat up the lens to help dispel moisture.

i removed my white led sidelights and fitted something like this
CITROEN SAXO 501 W5W CAR SIDELIGHT XENON BULBS on eBay, also Bulbs Lenses, Lights Lighting Accessories, Car Tuning Styling, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 06-Feb-08 13:40:08 GMT)

you still get the blue/white type led kind of light, but you also have a nice warm bulb in the thing helping to keep the moisture out,

this is probably not a problem if you don't wash your car often etc etc etc
